Funny how when the Bronco dropped Jeep could cobble up a V8 Wrangler and trot it out as a concept but we STILL don't have any real details on the Wrangler 4xe that was actually announced and supposedly going to be a 2021 model. Come on, Jeep!

They've been building/ testing/ planning the 392 concept since 2018. It's been mentioned in a couple places more recently (as it's no longer under embargo) but I heard it on the Bronco! Wrangler! special episode of the Truck Show podcast.

Jeep has been working on the 4xe since around the same time they announced the diesel going to production, if I recall correctly. If this info is true and my memory serves correct that means the V8 Jeep had a year and a half head start, and was something they were already toying with in past iterations of the Wrangler. I can almost guarantee they're going to hold the official release of the 4xe off until they can give it a proper hype preview/ launch (similar to the V8 Jeep).

Looking at the photos how do they know they are the plug in hybrid, at least take a picture of the driver side.

In fairness, just dropping in a different engine is a lot simpler then launching an entirely new power plant.

It is the first hybrid jeep, with the ability to go fully electric. A full wrangler, solid axles, even rubicon!. It is the first on its class, so not an easy task for sure.
