How much lift you got, or planning on? Flexy lifts with lots of down droop will require a larger (60") jack. You'd be surprised just how short a 48" is when you're getting towards the top and your tire is still on the ground. Now, if it's just for looks, get the 48".

Looks ???

So you figure that flatlanders figure, a JEEP is only an OVERLANDER if there's a HILIFT JACK MOUNTED ON THE OUTSIDE ??

Trouble is, that's what most of the new forum members think too--

I have a 60in farm jack on my hood. I bought some hood mounts that fit on a JK and put some washers under the mount to fill in the cone shaped hole and it fits fine. Been driving on highways and off roading with it and there have been no issues. The only downside is that it does block some of the windshield wiper fluids at low speeds but on highway it doesn't have an issue.

I'm probably going to get the interior mount for a 48 in jack and put this on my wife JKU since mine will be an overland vehicle and I want it to be safe from the elements

That's the impression I got out of the question. I'm a function over form guy so I rock a 60" jack.

That moment when you realize you should have opted for a compound bow to accessorize your jeep instead of that Hi-lift...

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Never saw the use for hauling the weight around if you have a winch. I haven't carried one in 10 years of wheeling and not once I have ever missed it.
Just curious, how do you change a tire on the side of the road with a winch?

Heh Heh, well--I don't use mine to change tires, but

I've used it many times to correct "HIGH CENTER" and move my trailer for a better line !

I don't follow high center. I'm new to winching, just installed yesterday. The other guy said he's wheeled for years without a jack with no problems. so either he has miraculously never gotten a flat or he has a way to change a flat with a winch.

I've never used my HiLift to change a flat either--

There are many other ways of swapping tires-0ff- the road--

HIGH CENTER is when you're off0road and you get your jeep perched on a ROCK/w no traction in ANY OF THE TIRES-

This. As a 4WD trainer, I tell people not to buy the 48. Period.

I want to mount one on my hood and want a more “full” appearance across the entire vehicle. Better to get the 48 or 60 inch?

Something like this.

Looks great mounted on the hood but how strong are the mounts if your in a front end collision on the highway, would that jack break free and fly through the windshield.

THIS

Hood mount is a terrible idea for all of the above and many more reasons. Sorry.

Best place is like AEV mounts them on their rear bumper. That's where mine will go when AEV releases the JL version.

Dave u should have your own forum. You could tell yourself how great u are.
I love my 48” hi lift. It fits perfect on my hood. I get to look at it all the time, instead of it blocking my vision out the rear window.
Here you can look at it too. Pretty red.

Enjoy

I could use the factory jack and my AEV jack base, which is in the cubby hole under the rear cargo area..or I also carry a little hydraulic bottle jack in my recovery bag that easily gets my tires off the ground...and a hell of a lot safer and uses less room!
