Hello there, bonjour.

In another thread, i’ve said it takes between 3 and 5 months to get a Wrangler in Canada, based on what my dealer said.

After a triple check with canadian journalists, yes, it’s true and not a dealer bullshit. Here’s why it happens.

- One journalist mentionned that with exchange rates between US and Canada, they can eat their profit margin by up to 6000 $CAN if they sell the truck in Canada instead of the US. That means Canada is really not a priority.

- The other confirmed that information and added that semiconductors, used in many Jeep parts, are actually very rare due to the very high demand for video game consoles, computers, TVs, etc. So Americans first, more lucrative markets second, Canada not far away from dead last on the priority list.

There’s even clients who ordered Cherokees and Renegades who ended up receiving a call from their dealer saying their order was purely and simply cancelled. Yup, it happens.

So. That’s why we have to wait for months. We have a single payer healthcare system, you have Jeeps first. Fair is fair. :)

Nothing about FCA surprises me any more.

For many years Canada was Chrysler’s best market, on a per-capita basis. In 2014-2015, FCA was Canada's best-selling automaker; last year it was 5th...and shrinking.

Can’t blame Canadians for taking their business elsewhere.

Canadians like one very important thing from their car: reliability. If that car breaks down once, you’ll see them run to a Toyota or Honda dealership and you officially lost them.

Add recent reliability problems with FCA products to a shitty FCA Canada PR, put a little zest of « we just sell trucks and SUVs now » in that joyful mix and there you go: you drop 5th.

Canadians also demand value for their money, much more than Americans.

FCA has been obsessed with unit-margins, to the point of neglecting or ditching models that sold well in Canada: Caravan, Journey, 300, etc.

But while FCA loves greed and has been driving up prices non-stop, it has done absolutely nothing to fix its terrible dealer service and inconsistent quality.

That’s not a long-term winning formula.

That’s why Canucks go for Wranglers or Gladiators: their values stay crazy high for years, in Canada. Plus, you don’t have to go to the dealer so often if you strap the 3,6L.

Other FCA products don’t do so well compared to their competition.
