I know the 392 comes with Fox shocks and the 392 XR comes with non-Fox shocks. Can someone explain to me what the differences are? Someone in this thread said the shock change was to account for extra weight of the XR package, but aren’t the weight differences only in the tires?

Is the XR version a lesser shock? Why would Jeep charge more for a lesser product?

35x11.50x17 AT3s on stock non XR rims fit in the tire carrier without issue. Very happy to save $350 On relocation bracket.

The XR package calls out
  • 35-Inch Tire Rubicon 392 Suspension
anyone know what that is?

I am shopping for a replacement for the wild peak m/t‘s since I need a snow rated tire for where I live. With my JKUR I went thru a bunch of rubbing with different lifts and tire sizes and I don’t want to go thru that again. I also want to leave my non XR suspension stock. I need to decide between 285/75/17s and 35/11.5/17s size.

I tried to follow what others were doing with my jk and I rubbed like crazy. So is the XR392 more lift than not XR? If they are the same I would feel more comfortable ordering 35s.
I have a new 2021 392 XR. I had a 2018 JLR that did not drive at freeway speeds very well. I have read that some 392 owners do not like their handling. Mine is much better than expected has everything but a firm center. I wanted to know is there anything in the XR option that would cause my 392 to handle better than other 392's without XR?

I don’t know the answer to your question regarding if something is different with the XR, but I wanted to share that mine is a non-XR 392 that I’ve been extremely happy with how it drives. Even after swapping it to 35s.

Maybe a slight increase in wander with them when I’m driving on an older, unevenly paved road, but that was expected with wheels and tires that are both nearly 2 inches wider than stock.

Those are just crappy mopar shocks with fox sticker. They leak and loose rebound just around 13K miles, numbers of forum member including me has experienced that.

I heard from a reliable source that the Mopar Branded Shocks on the XR are actually Bilstein Shocks which are top notch in the off road world.

We all have to realize that Mopar doesn't make their own shocks, they source from Shock provider and then put their own branding on it. In the case of these Fox Shocks that are failing all over the place referenced above, you can see its just Fox Stickers on them.

I am the inventor of the Exact Center so it is expected I would have one on my 392, I do now and I can say it drives as good as my 2021 Bronco which I stated should be the on-highway standard all; Jeep owners try to achieve. Mine is better than good, I would say great.

I didn't think so either. Maybe he meant built to Mopar specs, dunno. Fox is pretty reputable, but I know these run of shocks have certainly had issues.

Also, QC has gone down massively across all manufacturers over the past two years, and I can't think of a single large manufacturer that it hasn't impacted.

I have a 392 non-XR, and when I ordered it I skipped around at least 3-4 people who ordered 392 XRs before me. I think there were parts shortages on that option. My build time was 7 weeks to the door.

I didn't want the 4.56 as the highway driving/gas mileage would suffer. Plus I had a set of good Nitto 315-70-17 already. Still low mileage at 3,000 thus far, but no issues. Rides fantastic and no rubbing whatsoever. Tires came off my 2020 Willys and that needed spacers to clear at full turn. on the 392 I did have to remove the small thin plastic cover under the tire on this 392's rear bumper because the tire would rub the bumper and get stuck. other than that, rides like a dream and shocks people left and right, both the color and to stop light fun.
