Finally did a late night install on MY18 JLUR to 392 XR springs, shock, Mopar LCA, Metalcloak bumps and 37'ish MT tires but more like 36. Gain about 2.5 inch in the rear and 3 inch in the front; this is with the added weight of a stubby front bumper with a winch and steel full rear bumper with 37's as a spare.

That’s about what I would expect from 392XR springs being they are the heaviest in the JL line. Do have the 3.6 or the 2.0L. ?

Flex update on the 392XR swap to MY18 3.6 JLUR with 37's but measures 35.5 on my FlashCal+. Definitely rubbing at full flex and tuck but nothing shows that it was going to rip the fenders off. Not bad $500 spent on the setup.

So, I just picked-up a set of non-XR 392 springs and shocks for $200 (and the wheels/tires for another $1k - great deal for my favorite Jeep wheels). I plan to put them on my 4xe Rubicon. I 'm not looking for much lift, would be happy with 1/2 inch, and since the rear 392 springs are the same as the 4xe Rubicon with hardtop/tow/steel bumpers (I have all of that except for the steel bumpers), but the 4xe is about 300lbs heavier in the rear, I think that will be fine. The front is a little more iffy, as the 392 weighs 100lbs more that the 4xe in the front, but I figure it will be just enough extra to take the rake out.

All that said, I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can help answer:

1. Do I need to change-out the swaybar links? I've seen people talking about buying the rears from the mopar lift kit, and then moving the stock rears to the front, but since the 4xe is already 1" higher than a regular rubicon, I'm not sure if that is necessary.

2. I think I will need to add some bumpstops, and I am leaning toward the Terraflex 2" set, but is that overkill? Would 1" be enough?

I am planning to go to 305/70R17 (34") tires at the same time.

You could probably sqeeze buy with 1/2" of bump in front (the 392 shocks are 16.75" compressed and stock bumps at 16.25"). 1" gives you the same clearance as the stock shocks have. If you can help it, I wouldn't do any more than that or you are going to end up with less travel than you have now.

You're adding an inch to extension, you'll probably be ok and not invert with the stock links. Can always try it out while it's in the air, and swap if necessary.

Hi Gents

I have a 24 JLU RubiconX and have lost about -1" due to adding heavier WhiteKnuckle sliders, MORE transmission/Engine Skids, Warn 10K winch and several other heavier items. I am currently sitting at about 41" from ground to bottom of both front/rear fender flares. They know longer call it the XR kit on the 24' model X as I think it comes with most of that XR stuff and you only have to add the 35" tire kit, which I have. I already have 15K miles so slight tread wear has occurred as well. It does have the higher XR bump stop brackets in rear with pad extensions on top. I am also getting some body sway/roll, assuming due to the extra weight I've added and it being more than the spring rate and shock dampening was designed for. I have the 2.0L turbo and thinking the 392 XR springs and shocks only will get me back where I was stock. Thoughts?

You don’t need the shocks, just the springs will do.

I have the factory red shocks. They might be longer than standard Rubicon red shocks since it basically has XR suspension, but not sure yet. I was thinking the 392 XR shocks would have stiffer dampening for the extra weight of the 392 and to compensate for the stiffer springs, no?

This is what I want: https://www.ebay.com/itm/145514358637 or https://www.rubitrux.com/wrangler-jl-rubicon-392-xr-shocks-springs.html
It may be too stiff with the shocks as well as the springs. The 392 set up is around 600lbs heavier then the 2.0L.

To save reading through 27 pages, has anyone used the 392xr non fox shocks on a standard rubicon with the turbo 4c? I have take offs from my 392xr and a friend is wondering if my factory shocks would be an upgrade to the standard RED rubicon shocks?

They will be the same valving so in that aspect they will be the same, but the XR shocks are a bit longer. The difference between 392 and 3.6 or 2.0 suspension is in the springs and of course the XR series also offers the same differences between engines.
