I have a JLU Rubi on order and I am wanting to go with 37’s. What are the pros and cons of 12.50’s vs. 13.50’s ? I know there is a weight difference. I also know there is a big difference between manufacturers weights as well. I was looking at the Nitto Ridge Grapplers and the Milestar brands and was amazed at the weights. I am wanting to go with 20” wheels as well. Thoughts on all of the above mentioned??
Thanks,
Mike

The main thing you need to pay attention to is the load range. For instance, the Ridge Grappler 37/1250 is a D load range and the 37/13.50 is an E load range. E is going to ride stiffer than a D, and if its wider you're going to ride more in the middle of the tire on a light weight vehicle like our Jeeps with 8 - 9" wide wheels.

Very interested in this as well. Cross-posting this :)

I've currently got Nitto Ridge Grapplers in the shop - 35x12.5r17s, load E. Going to jump up to 37s, though.

Anyone have thoughts on a 12.50 vs 13.50, and whether it's worth jumping from the Ridge Grapplers load E to Open Country load D, if I do decide to go the 13.50 route? Ride comfort, road noise, etc. are factors for me.

Option 1 - 37x12.50r17 Ridge Grappler, load D (thinking 12.50s might look a bit narrow for 37s)
Option 2 - 37x13.50r17 Ridge Grappler, load E (not sure about that E load...)
Option 3 - 37x13.50r17 Open Country, load D (top pick is Ridge Grappler, but how do these compare?)

Practically speaking, I'd guess that the 12.50 is better for me - most of my usage is on-road and off-road is only light usage. Plus, I'm in Ohio so I assume the narrower 12.50 would do better in snow.

BUT..... wider tires look awesome :) And I won't lie and pretend like the looks don't matter to me :)

Also - any other good 37x13.50r17 options to consider? I believe the STT Pros are available in this size with an E rating, but if I were going with the E rating I'd probably just stick with the RGs. So... any other 37x13.50r17s in D load?

Lastly - concerns with mounting 13.50s on an 8.5" wheel with 4.33" backspacing/-10 offset?

Leaning toward option 2 - Ridge Grappler, 37x13.50s.

Thoughts on how they’ll do on 8.5” wheels with 4.33” of backspacing?

I’m planning on a 2” spacer lift with extended bump stops.

I have the Cooper SST Pro 37s 13.50 17.I run 28 PSI did a chalk test and it rides right all the way across the tire evenly. As ong as you do a chalk test you can get the right PSI and my JL Rubicon 4-door at 28 PSI is perfect

I have the 37 1350 17 SST pros like I said. If you run 28 PSI they're fine. You're right on the 37 1250 being narrow. 35 1250 looks great perfect but when you go to inches taller to a 37 and you stay at 12:50 in my opinion some people don't think so but in my opinion it looks like you took a bricj and put it on it's it'. It's too narrow like a pizza cutter Tire. Just like when people go to a a 40 they go to 15.50 you don't want that pizza cutter look unless you want it. Here's a picture of a 37 12.50 and my 37 13.50 you tell me what's looks good and what looks too skinny ? On the left is 37 12.50 on the right is 37 13.50 what do you think ? Also here's another picture of 37 13.50s. you have to admit that looks damn good that's someone else's Jeep but I showed you mine

Great thread.. can we talk 40's with the same width.. I run 37 maxxis stickies on the hard trails .. but I am looking to do 40's x 13 for basic minor trails - street... with a mopar lift.. wondering if anybody has made that leap...

thoughts?

What Mopar lift are you doing to run 40s I didn't think Mopar makes one bigger than the 2 inch . Most people that do 40s do 15.50 because 13.50 is really skinny on a 40 from people I know. They all went 40 15.50

For the 12.50 and 13.50 question, I honestly feel it depends what size wheel width and backspacing you are using. I have 37x13.50R17s on TR's 8.5" wide on my SD. I like the balloon look overall. In the end I wish the wheel was a little bit wider. I am also running about 52 front and 45psi rear unloaded. My Jeep has 35x12.50R17 on KMC's that are 9" wide at about 28-30psi. They almost look identical when sitting next to each other width wise. In the end to each their own. If you go the 13.50 route and mount on an 8.5" beadlock, they need a little more persuasion in getting the bead to seat vs the 12.50. I agree with Jammer. I am a big fan of proportions on height and width. If you're not worried about the tire weight and can clear the 13.50 then try em out.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I went with the Cooper STT PRO 37x12.5R17 tires on a ATX Slab 9" wheel. I did not want the 13.5 wide tires because I knew that I would not be able to go through the auto drive through car wash. That might not be a big deal to some, but Michigan has shit weather about 9 months out of the year. I buy the car wash pass for their best wash at $40 a month. My tires stick out past the fender. If there is any moisture on the road, my jeep is fucked up and dirty as if I was off roading all day. So the drive through car wash is important.

I do not think the 12.5 wide tires vs the 13.5 is that big of a deal.

What width rim on each of the tires? I assume a 12” on the 13.50’s? Nice looking ride!

Sorry about that... I want to run 40's, not sure I can with out major rubbing.. Just wanted to find if anybody else tried to run 40's with a 2" mopar lift.. I do have airsprings in back which allows me to push the rear up a couple inches, loaded or not..

Thanks in advance..
