Are people running 37" tires on their 2.0? I saw another thread where someone was saying when going to a larger tire the 2.0 wasn't enough. Thought I would bring it into this section to confirm/deny.

Whoever said that has obviously never driven a 2.0 turbo Jeep. Good on you for seeking facts from those who have actually ventured down the path that you've interested in taking.

A Rubicon with the 2.0/8-speed combo will yawn at 37's. The 2.0 turbo has a low and mid range torque advantage over the 3.6 engine. A number of dyno graphs have shown that the 2.0's published outputs are underrated and it seems to not suffer from as much parasitic loss between the flywheel and the rear wheels as does the 3.6 engine. Here's my 19 JLUR on 38x13.5's with stock 4.10's and no inclination for a set of shorter gears. 2nd pic is with 40x13.5's and am now possibly thinking of a set of 4.88's.

Also have 2.0 with 4.10 gears and 37. Wouldn’t say it’s like amazing but definitely livable with no issues! I’ll be looking to regear next year.

Part of my calculus for upgrading from a ‘19 JLS to a ‘21 JLR was going from a 3.6L / 6MT power train to the 2.0L / 8AT.

Don‘t miss rowing gears with the additional usable torque.

Building to 37s and I don’t expect to regear based on what others have posted.

Just sold my 2.0 with 37's and 4.10's. Zero issues whatsoever.

Hey Falcon
Just wanting an update since you have had this lift etc. in for a while now.
I know you went with the 37in, how is that working out for you?
How does it drive, both on and off road?
Thanks
J

My reply:

So far it seems fine. My mpg dropped roughly 3mpg to around 15.5-16.5. I drop to 7th earlier when going up hills on the interstate but I’m in 8th where I should be. Doesn’t seem to struggle or lag. If I hit the throttle hard off the line it’ll chirp and spin the tires. And the tire set up Is 121lbs a corner.

Offroad the Jeep did great. Only had to use the rear locker twice. And probably could have done without. But it was wet and both times I was bumping up a large slab rock and didn’t want to crab walk or hop much. I was leading a group and the newby was right behind me. They were stock and I didn’t want to make them nervous lol. They expected to struggle and bump around so I cheated to not risk sliding and make them nervous. It was bad enough talking then thru the obstacles with their regular nervousness.

Could 4.88 gears help Offroad? Of course. But I’m not convinced to regear yet. I may, just for the extra grunt. But still deciding. I don’t need to by any means so far. I’m pleasantly surprised. Not sure what going to 4.88 would do for my MPGs. Might help but I doubt it would be enough to use that as justification. I’ll get a few more off-roading trips and some more difficult trails before I decide for sure. I’m getting close to ordering RCV axles, Reid knuckles, and ball joints (dynatrac or synergy). I’ll also have a truss welded in at the same time. Perfect time to regear if I choose to do it.

To each his own I guess. As far as I’m concerned, 37’s with the 2.0L or 3.6L require regearing. We do 4.88’s with the 8speed auto, and it works out great. I can’t stand cruising in 6th or maybe 7th because I’m too cheap to regear and make the transmission work as designed. Hell, I could not tolerate 4.10’s on 35’s. I had to regear for those.

I will be re-gearing soon, but wanted to demonstrate the 2.0 is enough to turn 37s off road

2018 Sport S here and just hit my 50,000 miles with 37s and 20 inch wheels on stock gears since day 1. No issues and still feels like new. 👍💪

I see 8th all the time, and I may be many things, but cheap and presumptuous aren't on that list. To each his own I guess.
