Anyone running 35 inch tires with 4.56 gears? If so, are you liking that setup? Any major drawbacks on the highway?

I'm looking to re gear from 3.45's and I'm torn between 4.10's and 4.56's.

I recently got 4.56 done. I love it. 70 on the freeway im cruising at about 2100 rpm. Right at the start of the powerband. It pulls in 7th and 8th pretty good and acceleration is greatly improved. It feels like stock with a tiny bit extra oomph. Offroading it made a huge difference too. Its crawling up stuff and engine doesnt seem to be working nearly hard at all anymore. Overall im very happy i went from the 3.45s to 4.56. Personally it was worth the money. Others will say otherwise but its a personal preference. I enjoy the acceleration back. Also im averaging around 17-19 mpg on 60 miles a day that has a mix of up and down hills.

I agree with Moto 21. 4.56’s are great with 35’s. That’s what I ran in my 18JKU and it was the same thing, just a little more zippy than stock. 456’s more than make up for the new tire size, weight and weight of heavy aftermarket bumpers and accessory’s. I was on the fence between 4.56’s and 4.88’s. I’m glad I went with the 4.56’s, 4.88’s would have been too much. I’m going with 4.56’s in my JLU too, once I can scrape the coin together.

If I can find the money ill be upgrading shortly to 4.56 gears.

I have 34.5” tires, 315/70 duratracs on my sport 3.6 manual trans

Everyone ive talked to and the shop thats doing the work recommended 4.56 gears.

Like said, makes it better to daily drive but then you also have better offroad performance

This is good to know. I’ve got 35s on a Rubicon and thought 4.56 might be the way to go but was told by some that it’s nit necessary, don’t bother. Others said go 4.88 or it isn’t worth it. For my use I think 4.56 will be just right if I do swap gears.

With 35s and 3.45 gears, my Tazer 0-60 timer feature shows me 6.9 second runs. And I still get 18 MPGs mixed city/highway.

I have no idea why somebody would drop four figures on a gear swap for a JL unless you have a manual transmission OR 37"+ tires.

You’d keep the 3.45 gears if you put in new beefier axles?

I don’t have a manual or 37” tires and I’m considering it. Especially if I do an axle upgrade where it doesn’t cost me anything extra.

I’m in the camp that swapping to 4.56 from 4.10 isn’t worth the money. If you go 4.88s you’ll have room to move up to 37s easier if you want down the road. However, if you really want 4.56, I know of a place...

I’ll text ya later about sat. Should be good to go. Ordered some parts for the alignment machine

Thanks all, this is super helpful. I think 4.56 is the way to go for me.

@WXman I’d completely agree with you that performance on 3.45s isn’t that bad. I was honestly really surprised. But as I think you implied, It’s a bit different with the 6spd. I dont mind spending the money if it makes life on the trail a bit easier and saves me some clutch wear on my hilly commute.

I’m toying around with the idea of a regear. The shop recommended 4.88 for me. I dunno.
Seems like a bit much.
I never plan to go bigger than 35.

My wife says I can go with the 4.56
I’m still deciding if it’s worth it.
I only wanted bigger tires for looks. Not wheeling.
I’m thinking 4.56 9s better than 4.88
