Ive got the am itch to get bigger tires but I love the look of my wheels. I purchased my new Sahara altitude about a month ago it came with the altitude blackout package and the gloss black 18 wheels.
What I’m having a hard time finding out is if 35s/12.5 width tires will fit on the stock wheel. I plan I’m going 2 in mopar lift at the same time. So I’ll have the “fender clearance” I’m just wondering if I can keep the stock 18 wheels and go up to 35 with 12.5 width? I’m tires I’m looking at purchasing are the bf ko2s 35/12.5/18 . It will be 80% on road 20%off road

TIA

Tires of that width are going to "require" a wider rim per the tire manufactures recommendation. You just need to find a shop that doesn't care and most do not. I'm not sure what the offset is for that rim, but it may rub and you may need spacers, but I'm pretty sure it can be done.

I agree with @psdtime here. That tire is likely not in spec for the stock rims. Personally, that would concern me enough to not do it (others probably have without a care..... different strokes).

‘if you really want 35’s on your Jeep, I would encourage you to find a set of rims you like where the tire can be mounted “in spec” and with the correct offset to proved both the visual stance you want without needing spacers for clearance. Obviously, my opinion is worth nothing more than you paid for it. Good luck and post pictures once built!

I like the wheels also but not sure on when I will do the lift. So would the 285/70/18 33.7” fit OK on these wheels and without a lift.

Probably.

you are looking at essentially the rubicon tire here. Rubi’s have a 17” rim rather than an 18” but I’m guessing that you would be fine. The key is the width of the rim. I seem to recall that the Rubi rim is 7.5”. If yours is the same, 285s will mount without a problem. I also believe that 285s will fit an unlifted sport but you shouldn’t take my word on that. Do some more digging on these forums specifically for that.

The equivalent tire to a Rubicon on an 18" wheel is a 285/65/18. The 285/70/18 is taller. I don't know if that clears or not, but most tires in that size are Ok to mount on 7.5" rims per the manufacturer.

I have seen 35" x 12.5" tires on 7.5" wide factory rims and they look odd and unsafe. They are extremely compressed in the rim and then kind of balloon out. The sidewalls take on a "V" shape and the tire is very rounded and crowned. I would not recommend it, but many do it.

I cannot see getting an even wear pattern across the majority of the 12.5" width of the tire because of how crowned it is. You would be riding on only part of that. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah a flotation size will do that. If he wants a 35, the 11.5 wide 285/75/18 would be better.

Facing the same dilemma right now. Don't want to change my rims but want to go 35" (Cooper Discoverer STT Pros) and already have a 2.5" lift. I have warmed up to extensions, but now almost all the shops say they are trouble, and some wont even put them on. Desperate for a clear answer, fit or not fit, rub or no rub, extensions or no extensions, with no off-roading plans.

I’ve been told 295/70/18’s rub some fwiw. There’s a few people running 285/75/18’s in threads here.

Maybe look at 305 70 18. its a little more narrow but fits way better on the rim. I ran them for a bit before the lift and seemed to work fine, but I didn't do anything to extreme set up that way!

If you want the 35x12.5x18, you REALLY shouldn’t run factory rim, too narrow. And do yourself a favor, don’t run spacers on the street. I wouldn’t run them at all, but I can’t tell you what to do. I just advise against it.
