I haven't seen a traditional SBC done, and probably won't anytime soon. The LS Chevy's are the go-to engine swap now. And I have seen those. They use the factory Jeep 8 speed.

I’ll have to look into that but was tempted to go carbureted and eliminate a lot of the electronics.

I’ll have to look into that but was tempted to go carbureted and eliminate a lot of the electronics.
May as well go for a 3 speed manual transmission while you’re at it. Although it may be difficult installing a 3 on the tree column shifter.

LS engines are the way of the future for GM. Yes, the old Gen II's are plentyful and cheap, but LS make more horsepower stock. LS can be gotten in all aluminum which would be excellent for a JL swap. I'll be doing an all aluminum LS swap but would like to remain with a 5 speed manual trans.
