I agree. I was heavily leaning towards 34s. Wanted to put thisthread out there to see if there was anything I wasn’t considering.
If you are really set on 35s, I'd go with a narrower tire, like a 35x11, instead of the more popular 35x12.5. The narrower contact patch will help retain some of the factory ride and handling characteristics, and will allow you to keep the OE wheels.

These are some tires in that size:

17-inch rim 35x11.5: https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/35X11.50R17.htm
18-inch rim 35x11.2: https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/285-75R18.htm

Another photo naked with the 34 and they’re also load C which smooths out the jeep on road i couldn’t beleive how plush the ride is now.

Big, for your needs, might only be 31" tires...who really knows but you.

The Willys has Rubicon shocks, the exact same part numbers, but Sport/Sahara springs. However, there is something different there. One day when I remove my springs to replace with Rubicon numbered springs, I will be curious to see if there is a different spacer/pad on top of the springs. Maybe the shocks themselves are to account for the diference in ride height. I've noticed that when parkered next to a Sport S or Sahara, All with 255/75/17s, my Willys sits higher and when parked next to a Rubicon, there isn't but maybe an inch of difference. Also, since it was mentioned above, the Willys does have the big brakes.

I have 2.0T eTorque. Method MR305 17x8.5 4.75 BS, BFG KO2 315/70 C load with Rubicon takeoff suspension and Teraflex 2.2 Adjustable Stabilizer. I haven't done anything beyond light trails but found it to be fine. I daily drive it and with the 8 speed never once thought I needed to regear.

I like the narrower tires and don't want wider than 285...hell, I'd take a 35x10 or 35x10.5 over a 12.5" wide tire, but there aren't many of that size available (yeah, I know a few). Anyway, 285/75/17 is a great size. I think you'll be happy.
I'll be going with 35x11.5 for my Rubi.

I had Toyo ATIII 285/75R17 tires mounted about a month after I purchased my 2021 Willys.

Toyo states they are 33.86" tall when properly inflated. They fit well and look to be the right size to fit a stock or lifted Wrangler if you want to keep your 17x7.5" wheels.

I am very happy with the tire's performance in wet, dry and offroad driving. We recently went on a little offroad exploration, aired them down to 25psi to handle the loose gravel, deep sand and rocky conditions and they never failed to provide the traction we needed.

Did the spare fit without a relocation bracket?

Coming at the question from a different angle, I wanted 35s, I went with 315/70R17s, and they turned out to be closer to 34" than 35" in actual diameter. How disappointed am I?

Meh.

They still look great. I still got lots of additional clearance (in combination with my lift), and I do have the relatively weak M186 front axle anyway, so this is a little less stress on that.

In short, I'm not worried about it. I'll probably just run this size from this point forward.

Love your setup, looks perfect. Nice mods without looking like you're trying too hard. I too want a 34" tire, C-load, on my Willys but am torn between the Nitto MT or the Toyo AT? You might have just made my decision!

No. It did scuff the OEM bumper.

But I was planning on replacing the rear plastic bumper with a steel unit and swing out tire carrier so no big deal.

It fits fine, now.... ;)

Thanks. That's what I was going for. Purposeful without building a rock climber.

Both are good tires. I like the AT for dual purpose use on pavement and on the trails. I know I might get into some mud but I think the AT tires will do OK in mud as long as I don't get into some crazy deep stuff.

Just give the situations you will find yourself in and pick a tire consistent with your planned use.

Doesn’t matter what size tires you’re torn between. You will ALWAYS regret not going with the bigger tire.

Here’s my Sport S 6 speed on 285/75/R17 (34”) Coopers, on Rubi shocks/springs. I think they are the perfect size, no regear necessary.
