2019 JLUR, 2.0t, 4ish“ lift, 38” milestar Patagonias, 5.38 gears, asfir engine/trans skid, metal cloak fad skid, rock hard rear LCA skids, Rockkrawler no limits control arms, synergy raised track bar/tie rod flip, fox 2.0 shocks, winch. We bring a full compliment of tools and recovery gear just in case, but we are going it alone this year.

Are you really ever alone on that trail, this time of year?

Nope, and I've hiked half of it after breaking parts in the past.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Thinking about running Rubicon for the first time. Maybe this year. But, I am still on a basically stock JLUR now. Steering has Steersmarts parts and the new cast iron box, and I have a winch, but the suspension and tires are stock and no skids at this time.

With careful tire placement it can be done. We took the wife's wj on 4" lift and 31" jk Rubicon take offs through years ago. You'll absolutely want to get the steering stabilizer above the tie rod. Crushed the one on the JK it's 1st time through the trail 3" lift and 35's. Crushed the one on the JLUR on Holcomb creek on 37's. Why jeep mounts them so low is beyond me.

I thought I'd just take the steering damper off and put it back on at the end. I'm probably going with 35s soon. I'm not too eager to turn my JLUR into a dedicated rock buggie. My main uses are for hunting and around town errands.

The wife still daily drives it to and from work every day. We just came off a 5200 mile road trip in May. I wouldn't call it a dedicated rock buggy even though it is built.

Epic Rubicon trip. By far the most fun, most relaxing, and easiest trip to date. This JLUR never ceases to amaze me. Walks every obstacle. 0 use of the winch. 0 need for a spotter. 3 times I turned on the front locker and 1 time I turned on both. The only optional obstacle we bypassed was soup bowl as we were alone, it's very early in to the trail from the loon lake side, and this is the wife's daily that we needed to drive 150+ miles home at the end of the trail. I'll be honest, compared to 8+ years ago the trail is the same but it is too crowded. Literally spent a half hour plus waiting on trail traffic on a Thursday night. Years ago we ran the trail every memorial day weekend for years and never had that much traffic. Jeep jamboree sure, but a non-event/non-holiday weekend to see 50-100 rigs at buck island on a Thursday night? We wheel to get away from crowds and y'all are killing it. You'll likely find us on some random forest trail off season at this point. The wife shouldn't have to be worrying about finding a break in the traffic big enough to pee in the woods. Love the trail, hate the crowds.

Glad you had a great time.

I was afraid Rubicon would be crowded. I hate crowds. I'm like you. I go out to get away from people.

I ran Gold Mountain BOH trail yesterday and never saw anyone but 2 motorcycles. Loved it. Did it on a week day to avoid crowds. Being retired has its benefits.

We still have to get back down there to run John Bull, did Holcomb and gold mountain a couple years ago and saw 4 other vehicles total. It was October, I was guessing they'd be busy in the summer. Glad to hear that may not be the case.

Post trail report, aside from some scrapes on the undercarriage and underside of both bumpers and rock sliders, the only damage I found was 1 smashed grease zi on 1 of the rock krawler lower control arms. I had some 90° fittings left over so the replacement will be easier to grease now anyway. Added some caster as I prefer closer to 7.5°. Greased and retorqued everything, and changed the spark plugs too. Ready to start planning our next adventure. Back way to crown king will happen in September, but there will be plenty of other trail trips before then.
