Thanks for all the responses guys. I'll order the Tazer and do some hand calculations. It would be nice if it's not as bad as I think - but either way I love this thing.

Hi
Just a data point for you. I have a 2023 JLURXR (so I'm on 35s with a 4.56 and K02s inflated to 35PSI cold). It has 2,500 miles and I'm getting about 16MPG with mixed freeway/city driving. I'm not a fast driver but I'm not a slow one either. I'm heading to Moab soon and it's 1,050 miles each way. I'll try and report my mileage of pure interstate driving back to this thread.

EDIT: I should have explicitly mentioned I have the 3.6 (eTorque) but since this is a 3.6 thread I forgot and did not. Also I have AT.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
I can pretty easily get over 20mpg in town driving (sometimes up to24mpg), easy acceleration, get up to speed and coast off the pedal and it keeps the mpg up IME. It's the hwy driving where my 35s and 3.5" lift takes it's toll, getting 18.5 avg at hwy speeds as that railroad boxcar is hard to push against all that air :(
And yes, I have a Tazer Lite.

Jay, Thanks for the detailed response. It's definitely not keeping me up at night, as I've been driving it this way for over a year. What made me start thinking about it was my desire for 37s and a lift. My mind started thinking about single digits, and If I wanted that, I would daily my S6 that I can burn through a tank of 93 on in a very short time with the happy pedal.

Engine completely stock, never tuned. Only run high quality gas. Oil changes every 3500mi (i've done less than that in a year at the moment) but I am due for one. No fault codes. No emissions issues. Still under warranty.

My around town driving is definitely killing me. When I say "around town" I mean a 1600s town with 25mph speed limits, constant stop signs, and idiot drivers. My commute is 0.8mi each way at 20mph with a bunch of stops in between. I don't even count that towards mileage because it's just laughable. At 55 on speedo (57) I can squeak out 20mpg (computer) if I'm on flat roads and cruise control.

I know the stubby is killing me when it's windy.
That .8 commute’s not helping either. Engine’s not getting up to operating temp.

17hr trip I averaged about 15mpg on 37s with 4.88 for reference. Granted a good portion of that I was doing 90+ mph on the highway.

Calibrating and correct gearing for the tire size makes a big difference.

90+ in a 2dr w/ 37s, kinda ballsy :)

Yeah on the highway your cruising speed is key. I've learned that with my Silverado TB (lifted). Running 75mph I can barely maintain 16mpg. If I drop to 65mph I can maintain 17.5-18mpg. My JL does a bit better but it's not as high and not as heavy as the TB. I can run 70-75mph in the JL and maintain 20-21mpg, but it really drops off as I start to push past 75mph.

The bottom line is this - drive your truck like a truck and you'll see much better results.

Haha, you'd think a heavy 37 and beadlocks would feel unstable but the only time it got light was if we hit a huge crosswind. Other than that it was actually a very enjoyable ride across I-90 in Wyoming and SD.

Side note I-25 across Wyoming into the Big Horns is a beautiful drive.

Lived in a small Wyoming town (Tensleep) many years ago in Bighorn country, it is very scenic for sure!
Glad you didn't run into a deer/elk crossing during your trek. There is some nice open road out there no doubt, but I'm not that much of a gambler in my JL (but in our old Infiniti G, or current Gen G70, hell yeah!!!)

Funny you compare those - my leveled on 34s Silverado will break 20mpg at 70. at 75 It's 19.xx average. 5.3L 6spd and that's WITHOUT a bed cover.

I have a 22 JLUR with stock 31" MT tires and some icon wheels (which are heavier than stock rubi wheels) and I get 13.5-14.1 driving it like an old lady 5-10 miles down suburbia roads. Mine hardly every sees past 4K rpm either. I barely get 17 on the highway. Stock other than icon wheels too.

I have never owned a vehicle whos MPG rating is SO drastically affected by throttle use.

My Raptor got better MPG than this. And I was able to drive it aggressively.
My 575HP TT V8 M5 got better MPG than this.
My RRS with 5.0 and super charger gets better MPG than this.

Sure the aerodynamics play a part. But my raptor was huge and heavy. My Range Rover Sport is a fat pig. And the M5 was pretty heavy too.

So I agree with you. The v6 MPG is trash. I wish I got the V8. It would be even worse of course. But at least Id be smiling as I hit the gas.

Mine's a 5.3l with the 10spd. But i'm on stock tires (for now). The TB is two inches higher than stock and I have a 1" level so (up front at least) i'm lifted 3". Anyway, on perfectly flat, straight highway, at 65mph, I can just break 19mpg avg. Have not yet seen 20. Thing is, i've only been on winter fuel in winter conditions. Based on my previous GM Truck, I should get about a 2mpg boost from summer fuel and temps above 65. So that would jive with your numbers.

I'm a relaxed driver who rarely pushes it over 65.

Awesome, we spent our time in Dayton so not too far. Really enjoyed the area.

Mythbusters proved that the tailgate up/down theory had no measurable changes to MPG. :) I'm guessing the bed cover would be the same with/without.
