@jmj8355 I am in the same boat. If trade value sucked, I would grin and bear and deal with the 3.6 (overall it is a great engine and got 19.5 mpg on a trip to CO and back to TX). But, with the great trade in values the diesel is now not that far out of range.

As a lot of people with the Jeep say, we only live once.

Now, the next priority is taking some weight off the new Jeep. 5k curb weight is a hefty load.

Yep, i hear that. Just sent my order over to the dealer! Let the wait begin! Been watching diesel prices around town and looks like Costco is a bit cheaper than regular right now so that is encouraging as its typically 20 cents or so more than regular. Also found a truck stop type location only around 10 miles away that has DEF on the pump so i wont have to deal with boxes!

I just can't see how people ride around in 4th gear and 5th gear on interstate.
Based on my calculations (my JLUR was totaled, so I can't fly verify) the engine is at 2,100 RPM in 6th at 70 MPH. The 3.6 puts out 75 to 80hp at that engine speed at sea level and significantly less at 7,500 feet.

So no, driving in 6th at 70 MPH with 80-ish horsepower available at the throttle is not something that I would typically do.

Thoughts on how to accomplish that with the diesel? Mine will have boron steel bumpers, but a big Warn winch, 37s, rock sliders, fridge, etc. won't exactly help with weight.

It is perfectly appropriate imo - 2500 rpm in 5th at 74mph, and around 2900 rpm in 4th at 70 mph.

I also went from ‘18 JLUR 6MT to ‘20 JLURD. Love to row gears as a rule but the Aisin is a shit transmission imho. The ZF 8HP75 on the other hand is the gold standard in single clutch automatic transmissions and the back to back comparison of the two has shown the ZF to be the objective winner on every objective metric. OP you will absolutely get what you’re looking for out of the 3.0. I’ve beaten mine like a red headed stepchild for 35,000 miles and have nothing but good things to say about that engine/trans pairing.
