Those pistons are fine. That amount of carbon buildup is perfectly normal.
Thanks, appreciate that.

I’ve been getting pinging in the summer’s running lower octane, have you Dealt with that

Has anyone considered pulling the spark plugs, soaking the piston heads overnight with fav carbon solvent, vacuum-out the next day and change the oil?
GM recommends this, it’s a perfectly good solution. I am very surprised to see Jeep come up with this ridiculous head removal tsb. Just put a good layer of your preferred solvent, then crank it over after a few hours. Change the oil immediately, of course.

Might be dumb to ask, crank with plugs still out?

oily and milky I figure 3-4 ounces.
I’ve been running 91 and when it got to 80 deg today I thought I heard pinging in 3rd gear. Not sure where to go from here, I used 0w-20 but noticed the 2023 rental I had uses 5w not sure if that would help.

2 ounces is a quarter cup. That amount of oil isn’t even hitting the lowest mark on your measuring cup.

This is an insignificant amount of oil.

Agree. Any opinion about the pinging.
The pinging is definitely interesting if you’re still using 91 octane. Are you at sea level? Lower altitude you are, the more probable it can be.

We use 91 in our consistently with Mobil 1 EP 0w20 and so far zero issues

I've heard the factory plugs are too 'hot' in this motor. I swear I saw a TSB regarding it.
