I'm not speaking to anyone in general, but if you need to justify the purchase by calculating a break even point then to each their own. But this is just another mod for me. I'm paying the premium because I want the performance upgrade (torgue, mpg, range, etc) just like you would any other mod. You don't hear anyone talking about break even points for lift kits or bigger tires. Just like was mentioned above, the pay off comes the minute you feel that power for the first time.

Once in a Mazda once in a Honda. Carbon canister required replacement.
Worked for Honda for 3 years. I think I did 1 maybe 2 canisters in that time frame. Canister replacement is an outlier. Not a normal everyday repair.

@Buttercup 3.0 you said you were doing about 80Mph... what RPMs do you turn at that speed? I've never had a 3.0, but in my past diesels, I've found over 2k RPMs, miles take a huge dive.. could be more related to wind resistance at the higher speed too though.
So yeah while towing long distance it was an issue looking down and doing like 80 that being said most of the time was 70-75 at 75 we was around 2k rpms

I'm currently averaging 22 mpg, i usually drive 70-75 mph.
Wouldn't 70-75 mph fall more into "highway", where the projection is in the very high 20s (ideally)?

It’s not just highway driving, some stop and go in the city.

My MPG is slowly climbing. I'm currently at 26MPG around town based on the computer.
Mine was climbing as well but stopped at 22 lol. I've been averaging 22 for two days without climbing.

These are lower than I expected! The 2.0T folks are saying higher numbers lol. I hope many more 3.0D results post up higher numbers! Wonder what’s going on here...

Jeeps are hard to make apples to apples comparisons between drivetrains because of the variety of mods and aerodynamic inefficiency which yields heavily speed-dependent results. Listen to folks who have run two different engines on the same routes with the same mods.

Makes sense. In any case my highway mileage peaks at about 60 mph, then aerodynamics conspire to start slowly bringing it back down.

Truth! However, what does epa calculate ‘highway’ speed at?

It's the government, they do it in the most inefficient way... I think they wait till CARB releases info, and then just copy the answers... I would be interested in hearing from an expert on how they do their figures.

A comment about the current fuel economy. The winter fuel additive causes a drop of maybe 1 mpg and colder air is denser so it will cause a drop as well.

It was posted in the start of production thread the calculation is at 55mph. Does this make sense if 55mph=29mph then 70mph=24mpg?
