Thanks so much! Looks like “wheel well clearance” is the line I want to see how much the tires will stick out from the sides. Looks like with the bigger tires on the stock rims they will pretty much line up with the edge of the fenders. Am I reading that correctly?

Edit: actually I think that’s wrong. I need to look at the overall diameter with is 23mm more per side according to that (20mm by my math though: 255 vs 295 /2). 2.3 cm (<1”)I think will fit perfectly as far as not sticking out too far.
To give you some ideas, my 285/75/18 on stock wheels just perfectly aligns with my fender’s edge, and is the look I absolutely want.

Also if you like your paint, don’t let the tires stick past the fenders. It will sand blast the doors and hinges with small rocks.

Sorry I don’t have better photos with better angles, but you can see the tire just about sits flush with the fender. And it’s perfect like that.

So maybe I’m better off going with 285/75R17 vs 295/70R17? I was looking at a set of lightly used 295s which is why I was leaning that way. But I don’t see the extra 5mm on the outside making that big a difference either (10mm/2 per tire).

Go with 295, you will be fine for light off-roading use. Stack two washers behind the steering stop bolt and you are good to go!

I think a lot of trial and error has shown that 285/70r17 is about the biggest size for a Sport with no issues. I ran like that for a while. While it wasn't stuffed, to me it was as big as I would go aesthetically. With a Rubi suspension I feel like the proportions are much better. I still wouldn't go bigger. But everyone has different tastes.

The actual tread block should be right about at the fender edge, the sidewall will be about an 1" outside the fender best I can tell :)

Pretty much how I felt, although I wasn't running stock wheels so I had more clearance to the inside.
The 295/70s are a bit wider & taller, and I did rub on that plastic insert above the bumper a bit.

With the Rubicon suspension the fit is perfect now, and although I could go a bit taller I wouldn't want any wider than a 295. The only size I'd consider other than my current size would be a 285/75/17 (just like @Arterius2 is running) to go another 1/2" taller but still similar at the fender edge.

This is perfect, as I will be adding that takeoff suspension as well.

Like those wheels, stock 18” inches? What trim is that?

Done. So far no rubbing anywhere. I didn’t play with full lock yet too much but the brief bit I did it didn’t rub. I went with the Cooper Evolution MT (got a good deal from Walmart for $181/ea with free shipping). They should be good for my off-road uses (poorly maintained dirt roads, beach). They also look great and don’t stick out past the fenders. I’m very happy so far. One note is that with my ADD rear bumper I do require either a spare tire relocation bracket or carrier (I ordered the Smittybilt bracket) as the spare barely doesn’t clear.

Edit: Stock Sport suspension and gearing, and JL MOAB wheels.

Is that with the Rubi suspension or not? Thanks!
