285/75/r17 on stock JL Sport

ha, Im not saying you are crazy, just the weirdness of the situation. I checked before and after as well and have seen zero difference to MPH from dash to GPS.

It's like when I tried mounting the spare. I barely could get the back gate to open. I had to purchase a relocation kit while others, (posted pics), have a 1/2" clearance with the stock carrier.
BTW. The Toyos were 9.4 lbs. heavier than the OEM Firestones

I havent tried to weigh everything yet, I had 18" wheels, guessing I lost some weight from 18" Sahara to 17" Gladiator Upgraded Rubicon wheel... Should make up for the tire difference, some, I guess...hope...

Added some 285/75r17 km3s to the JL. I will need to raise the spare tire carrier a hair as it rubs the bumper.

How much of a difference is noticed between 285/70 r17 and 285/75 r17? With the stock Sport 3.45 gears, auto trans, 3.6 L. Does one lose 8h gear then the other loses 8th and 7th? Or do they both loose similarly?

I can't comment on 33's for the sport gearing, but the 285/75 on the Willys felt pretty similar. If there was a difference (at least with the Nitto RGs) it was pretty minimal. It would likely depend on a few more factors such as general weight of the tire.

Drove my Willys from NC to WV (and back) in a day and even with higher elevation than I was used to, I didn't notice any unexpected shifting or the trans holding on to lower gears.

Yeah they're the AT3's, exact tire in the link. Mine is in C load. Feels so close to stock tires that you forget you even have different ones in like 2 days of driving

Well, gotta confess that this thread cost me some money, haha. I really appreciate all the info.

These are Toyo ATIIIs. I also installed larger springs the other day. Gained about 1.5" from the springs.

Spare was not even remotely interested in fitting. Waiting on my relocation bracket and relying on good luck for now when I'm in the back country ;D

These were only ~10lbs heavier per tire than the stock Firestone MTs. And they drive nicer, not being a blocky mud tire and all.

Small sample size, but I haven't noticed any measurable loss in fuel economy either. Nothing outside of regular variance. Vehicle feels the same, except being smoother and a touch quieter. Quite pleased!

I did the same size yesterday. Nitto Trail Grapplers 285/75/17's. Spare will not fit on stock carrier. I need to change that. It goes in next week for Mopar 2" lift.

Use heat gun to push where it rubs if you have stock plastic bumper. I prefer it to relo bracket since the spare rests on the bumper.

So with 285/75 r17 Toyos on flat interstate going 80 mph are you in 7th gear consistently? Even with a little wind?
