285/70/17 vs 285/75/17

Hey All,

I have a JLU Rubicon 2019 and I'm in neeed of new tires, I love the KO2 but I want something a little bit bigger than stock (something that looks meaner). Don't want to do a lift just yet or get new wheels. So I was thinking on the 285/75/17.

Anyone has done this and how does it compares to stock??

Toyo AT IIIs 285/75/17s next to Falken A/T 285/70/17s both mounted on stock 7.5” wide rims. Solid inch taller.

I have a set - for sale, actually. They’re about 3/4” taller. It’s a slight improvement. You won’t need a lift. They will work great and look better, but it’s only 3/4”, so it won’t transform the appearance.

I went through a similar process but with my '21 Willys. I wanted a meaner look and to "fill up" my wheel well.

Go to https://tiresize.com/comparison for tire size comparisons. These are unloaded numbers and the height will be a little less under load. The site also gives you theoretical speedometer differences based on the tires you choose. I found the tables to be pretty accurate based on my GPS, so I'm good with it.

Like Mac said, they are about an inch taller, and like Whaler27 said, they will only be just under an inch taller under load. Regarding spare tire, I found some other Willys owners that went to the 285/75 on stock rims, said theirs fit, but mine did not. Think that has a lot to do with the brand of tire you choose (I'm reading that the KO2 runs smaller - I went with the Toyo AT3's). I installed a Red Rock tire relocator that pushed it up about two inches. Your bumper is different than mine. I'd go with the advice from Whaler27 since he has the setup you are describing. Let us know what you decided to do and with pictures.

Did you lift it after installing the 285/75/17’s? I recently installed a rubicon suspension and might go with this size, currently running 285/70/17. I’ve also read pressuring down the spare 6-7# will help fit it on the OEM rear mounting bracket.
