Register starting on 12/7/21 at 11:00AM for the Rubicon Trail.

The clincher for me is the cost. $595 per person with a 2-person minimum...
Then, be sure to wear 37" to 40" tires on your JL - that's all they accept - no 33", no 35". As you all know, 35" will fit a JL Rubicon with no modifications, but that's not good enough for the Jeeper Jamboree USA. Nope. They also require a transmission, transfer case and fuel tank metal skid plate.

For those of you, like me, who have to budget for the additional costs, it looks like this:

5 new M/T or BFG 37" tires at $335 each = $1,675
5 new 17x8.5 wheels (cheap) at $185 each = $925
5 Mount and balance at $30 each = $150
1 new ASFIR aluminum engine/trans skid plate = $355 delivered
1 new Dynatrac kit to raise the Jeep 2" to clear the new tires = $1,495 w shocks
1 new Synergy front track bar, tie rod and steering damper to tame the added weight of 37" tires and wheels = $700
1 alignment = $110
Sales tax = $165
Not counting any added labor to install the suspension

TOTAL: $5,575 in required parts (done right - suitable for a $52k Jeep)
$5,575 to run 37" tires even though RUBICON is emblazoned across both sides of my hood, plus
$1,190 entry fee for 2 people even if there's just me

$6,765 to run the Rubicon Trail. By myself. In a 2021 "Trail Rated" RUBICON.

I simply don't have that kind of money sitting around for a 3-day trip. Besides, I really don't want those 37" tires...

Sell your stock wheels and tires - ($1200)
Sell your stock springs and shocks - ($150)
You don’t need any additional skid, it does not say Trans ($355)
Less expensive lift - ($500) call it Teraflex plus 5100s
Just a track bar and stabilizer flip - ($400)
No tie rod no alignment - ($110)
Install it your damn self - priceless
Find a friend - (595)

Better?

Edit, thanks for the reminder registration is coming up, almost forgot.

Your spin puts a whole new perspective on it!

1. What offset do the wheels need to be to prevent rubbing?

2. What is a stabilizer flip? Flipping it up out of the way?

3. Of course I'll do my own wrenching... USAF jet engine tech back in the F-111 days.

Thanks ~

You're local in Carson City, so you can do Rubicon anytime. Only reason to go with the Jeepers is to enjoy the gigantic party...

But then - the 37" tire requirement sounded really odd to me, so I went and looked:

https://www.jeepersjamboree.com/vehicleinfo.html

Excerpts below -

Vehicle Requirements:
Jeep Wrangler JL 2022 Jeepers Jamboree Rubicon Trail trailjeep5
  • All vehicles must be registered for the event
  • All vehicles must have valid insurance
  • All vehicles must be street legal or green stickered
  • Seat Belts for all passengers
  • Roll bars or factory hard top
  • Tow hooks front and rear
  • Fire Extinguisher (appropriately secured)

Not Allowed:
  • NO OFF ROAD TRAILERS – NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Rear bumper cargo racks (above spare tire racks ok)
  • Running boards and steps both factory and aftermarket
Jeepers Jamboree Suggestions for traversing the Rubicon Trail
  • At least a 3.5" Lift and 33" Off-Road Tires
  • Functional parking brake or micro-lock
  • Tow Strap with loops (recommended rated at 2 times the vehicle weight)
  • First Aid Kit
  • Hi-Lift Jack (you might need one for changing a tire)
  • Spare tire with diameter within 3 inches of existing tires (no temporary spares)
  • Battery Hold Downs (no bungee cords)
  • Skid Plates for gas tank, transfer case and transmission
  • Remove all Hub-Caps and Steps
  • Must have functioning low range in transfer case
  • Locker in front or rear

So - I was wondering where you got the idea that 37" are required, so I went and looked up the "other" jamboree.

And yes, you're talking about their requirements: https://jeepjamboreeusa.com/trip/25th-rubicon-trail-2022/

Never having gone on either of the events, nor met any of the organizers, I'm not in any position to make any recommendations or say one event is better than another, or throw any shade on anyone here.

But it does seem like your desire to use your Jeep as you've already set it up is better met by the "Jeepers Jamboree" rather than the "Jeep Jamboree USA."

You continue to save me money! Yes, I have been referring to the Jeep Jamboree USA (didn’t know there were two!). I’ll investigate the Jeepers Jamboree as that’s more my speed! Thanks for your help!

1. Two main areas of rubbing concern. First is LCA, which may impact backspace/offset if it’s replaced, you’ll need to use the specific lift recommendations for this one. Second is fender, which is controlled by the amount of bump stop extension you add . I’ve seen a couple issues come up with certain manufacturers sway bar links in the rear, but I’m not sure if that’s more install related or just manufacturer specific.

2. Really called a Steering Stabilizer Relocation. It attaches the stabilizer to the track bar bolt and a clamp on the tie rod, flipping its location. Several manufacturers make these, and it gets the stabilizer out of the way (of you look under the Jeep you’ll see it’s low hanging fruit in stock setup).

I also didn’t realize there were two Jamborees. The one you and I were looking at is the one linked off the official Jeep BOH app.

And the good news is…

I’m in!!

Thank you to all the members who helped me dig out of MY rut!

Rather than go on the official *Jeep* branded Jeep Jamboree which requires all Wranglers to wear 37" tires, I signed up for the Jeepers Jamboree. They also allowed me to sign up for just 1 person and I can add a guest later... image that.

The Jeepers Jamboree has been doing this for 50+ years so I have great confidence they know what they're doing. The 3-day Jeepers Jamboree runs July 27 - July 31.
See you there!

Thanks for your research. I signed up for the 3-day Jeepers Jamboree (not the Jeep Jamboree USA) because they think my Rubicon is quite capable as equipped.

It'll be a bucket list experience! Very excited!

Congrats, I'm sure you'll have a blast.

While the Jeepers Jamboree may not have the requirements and you may be able to make the run stock, there are parts of your original list that make your vehicle more capable and less likely to sustain damage.

I would recommend chatting with some guys on here that have run it, and get some feedback on improvements which will protect your rig and make it more a more enjoyable trip. Maybe @wibornz can give some input.

Those are absurd requirements. Countless stock and mildly modified Rubicons have run that trail for years. I'm thinking that they just want to cater to the "more serious" crowd to cut down on the number of potential recoveries or other mishaps. IIRC, previous years only allowed "up to" 37" tires, not "at least".

Here's what's on my mod list for the JJ adventure:
  • Steering stabilizer flip - makes perfect sense
  • Use the stock JL Sport 7.5" steel wheels I had from a previous build to mount 35" BFG KO3 35x12.5x17 - 1" greater ground clearance, more tread for better grip, lighter than 37" tires, no lift required (lower COG), KO3s are better rock tires than KO2s (which will continue as my street tires), rock damage on steel wheels = who cares
  • Install an aluminum eng/trans skid plate - peace of mind, lighter weight
  • Tazer for adjusting computer stuff

We are a sponsor of the JJUSA events. I did the Rubicon this year for the first time.
Been wheeling for years and was excited to do it.
Three Jeeps did it this year, 2 drove from MI. I drove from CO and met the other 2 Jeeps in WY, it is a haul!
They get 125 or so Jeeps to the Springs in one day.
They divide the Jeeps into usually 3 groups.
Experienced
Moderate
Noobs
The reason they have the requirements is that they want to get everyone through and to the campsite.
As mentioned I know what I am doing, I used the rear locker maybe a dozen times and the front 3 or so times, but it was NEEDED for sure.
You roll out around 8AM (you get there WAY earlier) and if you have no issues, you are in camp around 3:30.
Amazing meals are provided, bring snacks and adult beverages.
The free day at the Spring is a blast hanging with fellow Jeepers.
Sunday is the "exit" which is a pretty quick out to the Tahoe side of the trail.

My "old" 2013 JKU with 40,000 miles on it lol
