If I put an aftermarket carbon fiber cover over it, will it interfere with the airbag if it should go off?

Also, anyone make a matte carbon fiber insert? Gloss is not my preference. TIA!

A lot of people repaint their panels body color using factory touch up paint spray cans.

Never cover an airbag panel.

By “carbon fiber” do you mean a carbon fiber patterned dip or an actual carbon fiber replacement panel?

I doubt it will interfere with airbag deployment.

At most you end up with carbon fiber imprint on your face. How cool is that!

Kidding aside, every stick-on cover I’ve seen looks cheap.

If I were to do something like that, I’d remove the OE covers and have them wrapped in a vinyl color/pattern of your choice.

There are videos on how to remove those covers. It takes a bit of work.

My main concern would be to introduce unwanted squeaks and rattles from taking the dashboard apart.

Vinyl cover may retard the deployment if the airbag making it less effective. I would not wrap it.

I’d use a set of OEM or else paint them to suit you. “Covers” are another name for schrapnel I’ve seen airbag deployments, and I’d not want to introduce anything foreign between it and me or my passengers-you’d likely be picking sections of “cover” out of your face after a deployment.
