2021 JLUR Diesel Build (10 years+)

Hello,

My name is Joe Roberts and live in Montgomery, Alabama. I purchased a 2021 Jeep Rubicon JL from a dealership in North Carolina with the diesel motor In December 2020, with the intension of modifying it over the long term (10 years+) for my son (currently 5 YOA). With the sole purpose so we can work on it together over the years and hopefully he can have it when he starts driving.

This is bold statement coming from a person who has done nothing but buy and sell muptible vehicles over the years. I have owned and worked on tons of things from Mustangs, Vipers, GTR, Hellcats, CTSV, Raptors, Corvettes, etc.. and now this is my 5th Jeep. I have owned 1984 CJ7, 1993 Jeep YJ, 2013 Jeep Jk, 2016 Jeep Jk and now this 2021 Jeep JL. I have modified all the Jeeps except the 2013 Jeep Rubicon 10th Anniversary I had.

So I have started this thread to have over the years and hopefully one day have the privilege of given it to my son and hopefully in still the same love I have for all things automotive. My enjoyment or hobby is the modification of the vehicle, the time researching and working on it in the garage. The interest it brings from others when they see it and looks its brings from something that is just unique and sometimes over the top.

I have never been big in actually offroad driving, mudding or rock crawling etc... to be honest. I think the Starbuck drive-thru jokes are funny and Mall Crawler etc.. Maybe that is something that can change for me over this build and I can make more of commitment to use the Jeep more for what it is built for.

So with that said, here is my Jeep that I purchased back on December 2020..

Doesn't look like this today.. lol.. Started modifying it from the very start.

Some vehicles I have had..

2016 Jeep JK... UD60, Caged, Coilovers, etc.. traded a Nissan GTR (full bolt on) for it to modify it.. sold the Jeep some time back on another forum to member for Las Vegas. Will have to find the thread somewhere and post it. I wonder where it is now.

Started with removing the bumpers, fenders, etc..

Rock Slides Engineering, Nemesis Industries Fender Flares, KMC Machete, Cooper Pro STT, Warn EVO 12K, Motobilt bumpers and Tag Relocation and Monster Valves..

On next...

The Machete's rock rings were powder coated along with the fenders to match the Jeep. Also laid down a coating Adam's Graphen Ceramic Coating on all the rims, fenders, bumpers, etc... to help protect the surfaces for the future to come.

Baja Design LP9 (Amber) with upfiiter wiring harness for the Jeep JL. Also picked up some security bolts, so it is less likely to walk away on its own.

American adventure labs inner fenders front and rear. They are satin black with matching red inserts.

Also picked up a JL Tazer mini to help with TPMS, Light out warning and tire size adjustment.

So.. I purchased a set (8) of Core4x4 tier 4 adjustable control arms and installed them on the Jeep. I also have their front and rear trackbars. My intention was to run the Accutune 2.5 Fox Coilover setup with remote adjusters and actually had the kit on order since December. But then cancled it last week to give me some more time to get the best setup I can.

But I have wonder on what do I really want?

I have been thinking of pulling the control arms back off and selling them on the forum and going with a long arm setup on the Jeep.

been looking at the Rebel Offroad double throwdown kit and their rear coilover kit. Also adding the Teraflex IR long arm kit I have seen on few of their builds on Facebook and Instagram..Also, there is such a backorder on parts. Was told up to 20 weeks for King Coilovers to ship.... just dang ridiculous.

What do you guys suggest? I plan to run the Dana 44's for now.. but upgrading to larger axles in the future is never off the cards for me. Just so dang expensive.

Alright,

Just places my order from Rebel Offroad for the Recon Coilover kit with double shocks and finned w/adjusters. Let see how long the Coilovers take to come in.. . Was told 18 to 20 weeks on backorder, so puts is around July 6th to July 20th, 2021... ugh..

Now I just need to get the rear kit on order so I'am not waiting on it too for half the year.

Plan also to run the Teraflex IR Long arm kit and sell the Core4x4 Tier 4 (Red) control arms here shortly with adjustable trackbars and run stock until the suspension comes in. The trackbars and the front upper control arms are brand new and Uninstalled. The others (6) have been Installed, but only seen maybe 50 miles on them, so basically brand new.. lol

Just picked up the Steer Smarts Trackbars front and rear, draglink with Griffin, Pro Aluminum tierod, steering brace and steering stabilizer relocation and their SS shock so it would all work together. Will post up some pictures when I get everything in and have chance to start work on it... read some reviews stating of interference with the Griffin Isolator and SS shock with no lift on the Jeep, so will see if that is the case on diesel JL. Was also on the fence about their Pro or Standard trackbar bushings, also seen review about the movement with the different bushings. Just looking for solid driving Jeep with years of good performance.

I also have set of Motobilt Diff covers that have just inished being powder coated and hopefully I can get picked up on Monday. They were done in Evo Gray, which matches the color of the bumpers on the Jeep. Plan to swap them when I start pulling the steering off on the front, just makes since while working there.

The long wait for King Coilovers... ugh... 18 to 20 weeks, puts delivery sometime in July.

I still have for the sale the Core4x4 Tier 4 Adjustable Control Arms (8) and Adjustable Trackbars front and rear... will also include the Grade 8 bolts for the control arms with the sale.

Installed the Harken overhead Jeep hardtop storage system today. Getting close to that time of year to go topless.. spring is around the corner here in Alabama... been 70's all week.
