It’s most likely what others have said about def being pumped back to the tank. Our big rigs at work do the same. It’s when you don’t hear that at shutdown that you might have a problem.

Everything people are saying on this forum makes since. It could be a def pump or turbo cooler? It would be great to get an answer from a FCA engineer because I got three different answers from three different Jeep dealer mechanics. And why do some make the buzz and other don’t?

I highly doubt it’s the DEF purging itself if you can hear it from the top of the motor. There are no DEF lines that go anywhere near that area under the hood.

unless its pushing filtered air through the def lines to purge the fluid . . . the source of the sound is next to the air box.

I haven't received my JLURD yet, but I remember reading in the diesel supplement that there was something that would happen after shutoff and there would be some noise, and it was normal. Don't remember exactly what it says or where it was in the manual, does anyone else remember this section?

Just looked through the Diesel Supplement. Page 23 mentions DEF, but also mentions from under/rear the Jeep.

Thank you for posting this, but . . . .

the audible sound isn't coming from the rear of the vehicle. It's coming from under the hood.

Yes, I mentioned that. Was just trying to mention what was in the diesel supplemental manual.

While the description given in the manual is not consistent with the location of the sound, I'd be willing to bet that the DEF system is the source of the buzzing sound.

It still makes me scratch my head though.

I'm wondering if for 2021 they combined it. My manual periodically has sections for "diesel engine(If equipped)" and the image you posted is on page 197 in my 2021 manual.
That's probably the case. My 2020 manual mentions nothing about diesel at all.

Does any of this make since? This is coming from the Gladiator forum.

“Well, I heard from the dealer today on the buzzing sound after engine shutdown. I was told there was an internal FCA bulletin about this and it’s a normal ecodiesel turbo breakin noise regarding the spooling of the turbo. They told me it should go away sometime between 500-1000 miles. Not sure I buy that, but we will see.“

1300 miles on mine, still buzzing.
