You should have had that on a flat bed to the dealer yesterday.

It sounds like a rod knock to me. Be thankful you're under warranty.

Hmm, Yikes! Im a gunsmith by trade, but my limited automotive knowledge is telling me rod knock should only incease with speed, not go away?

However off to the dealer asap

Agreed, you would think so, but rod knocks have a funny way of hiding themselves outside of an idle. I wish I knew why and could share with you.

Does anyone know why that is? I'd love to know myself and figure this would be a great learning moment.

I wish you the best on the repair Parratt. Let's hope we're wrong.

first, I hope we are wrong, and/or the fix is easy, fast & cheap...

rod knock...
What you are hearing is the crank moving thru space where the bearing should be,,, the hit on the other side of the rod.

As you speed up the motor the angular acceleration of the large end of the connecting rod will go way up and can actually cause the rod to stay in contact with the crank instead of going across the empty space.

Also as you come off idle you are going to see significantly increase in both oil pressure/volume and it can actually fill that gap when it's small.

I have lost more than a few motors that ran "OK" until you pull in the pits... LOL

Well I can't say what is making that sound, but it should be Easy for them to find out where it is coming from & what's causing it. I would have been under there with a long screwdriver trying to locate it :movember:
Good Luck!

Before you go to the dealer it’d be wise to make sure your oil level is correct, just for warranty protection if nothing else

Honestly with 5KKm(3000 Miles) on it, if the oil level is low that is on the dealer.

Glad that it was a relatively easy repair and benign in nature. I'm sure you're relieved it wasn't worse.
