I am having the same issue. I bought my 2020 Sahara in February and 3 times within the last week I have tried to put it in reverse and it clunks and will not move. I have less than 600 miles on it. What do you recommend?

I really hate these "broke down" threads. Really let's the wind out of my sails for exploring the back roads. This sounds like a bad batch of solenoids and not across the board transmission issues. My '19 is running strong to date. Your's will too with the replacement solenoid. Still sucks, hang in there and don't jump ship yet.

2020 Wangler JL Sahara unlimited just 2 1/2 months old (3k miles on it) stopped at light and refused to reverse or move forward. Engine light came up when the issue occurred. When shifting the gear to D (gear D blinks), it says shift to P . I am very upset with the transmission issue on my new Wrangler JL. Jeep was towed by Chrysler Road side assistance (Scheduling road side assistance was quick and easy, but it took 90 minutes to reach me). Jeep is with dealer now, based on the diagnostics code, service dept. said transmission must be replaced. Parts ordered, wait time 3 - 4 days for parts. I have opened a case with Jeep on this issue. The customer service representative said, this is the first time she is hearing about the transmission issue on 2020 Wrangler JL!

Any one experienced similar issue.
They always say itā€™s the first time theyā€™ve heard about it.
I phoned in about the loose steering and backup camera issues and they also said it was their first time.
These are the two MOST prevalent issues surrounding the JLs, even one with a recall to address it.

Please open a case with Jeep customer service. I am not surprised to see more cases like me. Customer service and dealership told me that never heard of transmission problem. Looks like I am not the only one.

Good news is the Jeep is running fine, but I hear whining noise from engine after transmission fix, need to check with dealership. I have driven only two hunderd miles since March due to Covid-19.

The automatic transmission is a very complex mechanical device with hundreds of parts. Anything mechanical is going to sometimes have issues. For Jeep, for Ford, for Chevy, for Audi and all others. With over 600,000 JLs built there will be some transmissions that fail. It isn't a common issue like you are making it sound. Be thankful you don't have a manual transmission. I asked my dealer and they say they haven't seen it much. They're my friends so I know they aren't lying to me.

I don't expect a jeep with few hundred miles or few k miles to have transmission problem within few months of purchase. Is my expectation wrong when I paid 54k?. I believe there are 3 owners in this forum have similar problem within 5 months. There are other brands I owned , drove more than 150K, never had transmission failure or issues. Automatic transmission is not new, it has been around for many many years! First pattern was in 1921 !!!

I trust Jeep improves the quality of their build. Nevertheless I love JEEP! :)-

First, 54K isn't that expensive of a vehicle these days. And a mechanical device can go at any time, be glad it is still under warranty. I've had 33 vehicles over the last 50 years and never had a transmission problem, including 3 Jeeps. Had a 1982 Camaro Z28 that developed a throttle problem after one year. They even sent out an engineer from Detroit to try to fix it (beginning of computers) but he couldn't so they gave me choice of a new vehicle.o
Not fun when something happens but expanding it out as a big problem is unrealistic. Three people in 5 months is nothing.

@JeepCares

I'm having a similar issue with my 2020 Jeep Wrangler with the 8 speed. Was driving around as normal when all of the sudden the vehicle lurched and unexpectedly downshifted then upshifted. After this the dreaded CEL light came on. Seemed to be going through the gears at this point and so I continued to drive around but noticed it seemed to have trouble figuring out what gear to be in. Once I got home and tried to put in reverse it would not go...kept blinking on the R and then saying shift to park then desired gear which I tried but still would not go. I let sit overnight then tried to drive the next day but then it seemed to be stuck in 3rd only and would not upshift or downshift and RPMS would rev extremely high at a speed over 30 mph.

It is extremely disappointing that my brand new Jeep with only 5100 miles is already having such a major issue. Had to have towed to the dealership. It sat there over the weekend and was just diagnosed today. They told me the valve body will need to be replaced and the part is backordered with no date on arrival in sight!! So now my brand new Jeep will be sitting at the dealership for who knows how long until the part is ready while I continue to make payments for something I can't even use.

Seems this could be an issue with more than a few jeeps given the part availability. I had a family trip planned at the end of this month which we were really counting on our Jeep being a part of and now this happens. Hopefully the part needed will come in soon and we can get this resolved.

I have owned many other brands of vehicles about 10+, this is the first Jeep and this is the first time I have had transmission issues with any vehicle. What a let down.

Curious... does anyone (everyone?) notice a bit of a "clunk" when putting the auto trans into REVERSE? No such issue putting it into drive or park, but every time I back out of the garage...

This thread has me thinking about that.. if everyone else gets that, I'll hang loose, but if that sounds like a precursor to a worse issue, I will take it in and have them look at it before it strands me.

I did not notice anything like this clunk when going into reverse or out of the ordinary prior to having my failure issue. Up until this happened I had been pretty satisfied with how it was operating and thought it was a smooth running transmission. Might be worth it for them to have a look but just be aware that parts may be scarce right now and if it does need something you may be Jeepless for a while.
