Regardless of the JLU variant’s factory torque spec, this all but guarantees the ability to chip-tune the thing to >500 ft-lbs. A JLUR creating that much twist at 1600rpm is worth the price of admission regardless of the final cost/mile imho. YMMV.

I the JL is a brick on wheels but if a half ton pickup with that exposed bed gets 30 on the highway I can’t see how the JL won’t be in the same ball park or better. That would be awesome for a guy like me that puts 20k plus on the odometer annually.

The frontal aero and ground clearance have more to do with highway mpg than weight and a bed. The upright grill/windshield and massive amount of air traveling under a wrangler are hell on mpg’s compared to the rounded sculpture of a 1500’s front end and its minivan-height front air dam.

Thank you for the bad news. :(

I’m still thinking city driving MPG might improve. Constitutes most of my commute. Even my H2 got 20 plus at 55 or less. Push it to 80 and you’re lucky to see 11.

FCA uses a fiscal year ending 12/31, same as the CY. In other words they won’t specify expected 3.0 availability any more than 9/1-12/31. Still expecting 8-9/19 JLU 3.0 orders opening with deliveries 11/19.

will the diesel in the new gladiator and wranglers be 3rd gen diesel? or 2nd gen?
ETA:

Looks like technically 3rd gen but the difference between the 2014-2016 vs 2017/18 generations was nowhere near as signicant as this apparently 80% overhaul.

Looks like we have price information now too. EPA/CARB certs must be on schedule within the month if FCA is dropping pricing info. Interesting that Ram is able to undercut Chevy/Ford by so much. Money talks so this will likely translate to sales unless the gen3 3.0 has reliability issues.
ETA: Just as likely, Ram sees its lunch being eaten by Ford/Chevy while the gen3 3.0 sits in CARB cert prison so they’re setting and releasing pricing now to convince buyers to wait out CARB rather than jumping ship to the competition.
