Hey all,

just brought a 2020 JL Rubicon Petrol 3.6L here down under.

Was told by the dealer and saw in the fuel economy sticker that I should be getting 13.6l/100km around the city.

I’m currently getting 17.1l/100km for urban driving and it’s brand new and I haven’t even dropped my foot.

I got given half a tank and I’ve only done 100km and The fuel gauge has been dropping fast. I’m down to my last bar and I’ve only done 100km.

Thoughts? Has anyone else noticed this or experienced this problem with a brand new Rubicon 3.6l Petrol?

cheers

You did not mention automatic or stick shift. Mine is automatic 8spd. City driving I get about 19 miles per gallon. You do the math...

BTW, I'm thinking going with the diesel soon, if I can butter up my wife.

I am getting 15L/100km with city driving, 2019 Rubicon with 3.6 auto. For 1st few thousand km I was getting around 18L/100km. Just under 4,000km now.

Highway 80-100km zone i get about 9L/100km while anything over 110km zone it will pop up to 12L/100km.

Automatic. In Australia and we unfortunately only have the automatic. 19mpg is good.

Thanks mate. That’s good to know. I’m pretty much getting the same as you. 17-18l/100km. Hopefully mine does improve like yours.

do you use 98 octane or 91 oct?

I use 87 octane. it runs good. Here in Florida, its all flat. FYI, one gallon equals 3.785 liters. One mile is 1.6 km. But I'm sure you know all that. I love mine. I got it because diesel engine just became available recently. So as soon as I butter up my wife, I'm going to order me a diesel 3.0 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, and trading mine in. Some guys are reporting 30 mpg of real world driving.

I get about 13-14L/100km city in the warmer months when the ESS is more active. But winter has been a solid 17+L/100km.

However, my decision to get my JLUR had very little to do with fuel economy and more to do with the feeling I get driving it, washing it, waving at other Jeeps, taking pictures, looking back at it when I park it, etc.

I believe it's fuel consumption is connected to it's aerodynamics. Science....crazy stuff.

Using 91 octane. Tried 98 for first 3 tanks, have not noticed any difference with the 91.

FYI All,

Resetted the Fuel Economy reading and the reading is heaps better at this stage. I reckon the dealer would of reved the shit out of it in neutral in their garage and obviously that would result in poor fuel economy reading. Hopefully my recent lower reading of 12.5L/100km sticks with the mixed driving that I'm doing.

Now in the winter time I am at about 13.3.L and in the summer I was at about 12 - 12.5 L and that would be 100 % city driving. I think if you are over 15 L in stock JL then there may be some mechanical issues with your rig.
