Factory ordered a brand new 2019 JLUS, which arrived in a short two weeks. Amazingly fast! However, found out before arriving at the dealer that during preparation it had a "faulty valve body". Dealer ordered the part to fix the issue and was informed that I would be able to take delivery on Thursday.

This is my first time ordering from the factory, and not a Jeep expert by any means.

Should I be concerned taking a brand new Jeep that already had defects before even taking delivery? What questions would you ask the dealer?

Don't get me wrong, glad the issue was found and being addressed, but what would you do in this situation?

Appreciate any input!

Thanks,
Jay

I understand your concern. Mine would be the same. If it makes you feel any better, I bought a new Dodge Quad cab Hemi truck in 2003. A week after ownership, I noticed about 1/2 tspn of transmission fluid on the garage floor. It had a cracked transmission housing, which required a new transmission. Needless to say, I was very upset. I was assured it was not an issue to repair. I had the truck for 7 years with no transmission issues.

Relax!

A bit of an update... dealer replaced the faulty valve body on the transmission, then thought that it was the engine throttle body, and now have told me that they needed to "fly in" a consultant from Jeep to assess the vehicle. Following the assessment, the consultant told the dealership that the entire transmission needs to be replaced.

Would you take a brand new $58K MSRP Wrangler that has already had a faulty valve body replaced, engine throttle body replaced, and soon its entire transmission replaced? As I haven't been presented with a working vehicle yet, I've not yet signed any papers, but now questioning if I should just ask the dealership to reorder, or maybe just walk away from the 2019's and order a 2020 (I would be very sad, as I've put a lot of research into the 2019 lol).

Please share your thoughts! What would you do?

Good thing your a doctor!...lol.. he hasnā€™t bought the Jeep yet so no need to worry about any lemons laws savvy mate!

No do not buy that Jeep make them build you another one period! If it has this many problems early on I would say you are in for many more if you buy it! Save yourself the headache and wait for another one to be built if I were you!

All sarcasm aside what do you really expect having a legit first year build vehicle? Yes before you go on and say a 46k+ Jeep shouldnā€™t have this I understand, however I mean really though. And lmao at these clowns and the typical lemon law comments. Get out of here go drive your Jeep for once rather than fill all these topics with your same responses you know nothing about.

lol... honestly, the vehicle is probably getting more attention now from a Quality Assurance perspective then it ever would have at the factory. I've also been told that the transmission they've ordered is also going to be straight from the manufacturer, and not refurbished. From that perspective, the optimist in me is saying that maybe all will be good in the world once the transmission is replaced.

However, the pessimist in me is saying a few things:
  • Smells like a lemon - this is the third repair they've done in the last week on the vehicle to try and diagnose the vehicle issues (though other steps seem to have been troubleshooting measures)
  • Dealership couldn't identify the problem themselves, and had to call in a consultant from Jeep for next steps (means the problem is probably not trivial).
  • Are we at the end of the troubles, or was something else missed? If you spend >$50K on a vehicle, how does something like this ever get past inspection at the manufacturer?
  • Not being a car expert, what's the likelihood that in repairing these things that the person at the dealership doesn't put Humpty Dumpty back together again properly?
  • How do I know if the parts they put on the car are brand new, and not refurbished?
  • Is the car immediately devalued if these types of repairs have been made before it was ever owned by someone other than the dealership? Am I about to invest far too much $$ into a brand new vehicle, that now doesn't feel so new?
What would it take for you to accept the vehicle?

I over read and or didnā€™t see that reply posted about third attempt Iā€™ll give ya that! However,
Dana has their fair share of problems coming straight out of their own assembly line. I know thereā€™s plenty of axles with noises or electronic lockers that go bad and Dana does not want anyone even moving forward with the rebuild, thatā€™s why majority of the guys will get complete new axle shipped and installed. So that kinda takes Humpty Dumpty out of the picture with new models. As for refurbished stuff on your brand new vehicles covered by warranty... thatā€™s a huge no no.
And I can tell you in my days of working on the JK assembly line back in the day. If you would see some of the people that were employed and their ā€œworkā€ ethic you would understand how SOME things get past inspections....

Don't do it you will regret it! Even if they gave you another $500-$1,000 which they won't do because they will say its fixed now I would honestly make them build you another one! The month you have to wait will seem like nothing compared to this Jeep that will most like spend well over a month in the shop for additional repairs!!! You have answered your question above with all your sound reasoning, no way I would buy this Jeep!!

My 2019 Rubicon 2.0 Turbo / eTorque engine with 266 miles on it had the automatic transmission fail. The Rubicon manufactured date was July 2019. I just bought it new on sale 2 weeks ago. It broke down the 3rd day that I drove it.

I had to tow it to the dealer. They had to order a tool to test the transmission valve body and it took 5 days for it to arrive. They tested the valve body and determined it needed to be replaced. They replaced the valve body. After 7 days at the dealer, it is ready to pick up.

I am also concerned if other things will go out on this Rubicon.

Anyone else have related issues to make me aware of?

Fred
