So I picked up my Rubicon last week, 240 miles on the clock already and a few day ago while going up a ramp in a garage the car engaged the active safety with the settings set to Near. I found another thread in which someone stated a similar occurrence. I think it's odd as I own 4 other FCA Product that have the same feature but don't have this issue in the same garage.

Today while heading to dinner with my Girlfriend and little sister I was at a red light. The light turned green and the car ahead started to go. With it being around 20-25ft in-front of me I started to go and around 10-15mph in the middle of the intersection the car suddenly said "BRAKE" and stopped my car like in the garage, but this time with traffic behind me moving towards me. The car ahead never tapped the brakes, and if anything was gaining distance on me.

The car behind me was literally inches from my rear bumper and I could do nothing till the car came to a complete stop. The drivers behind me obviously being very annoyed, and that's being kind. Tomorrow I have an appointment to install my side steps at the dealer, I've disabled the active braking and left it on warning as if I turn it completely off I get a light on the dash that it's off and it's annoying.

It's quite worrying and I won't be having this feature turned on in the car again unless we have some type of resolution for this matter. I'm going to install a dash cam now from one of my other vehicles but at the same-time don't want to be rear-ended or have an accident in general trying to prove there is something wrong. Has anyone else suffered something like this?

Sounds like the radar needs to be re-aimed. I've seen this happen on other brands of cars with active braking/cruise control systems.

Thanks, The Dealer today ordered a new module as they believe the module controlling it is faulty but I'll suggest this as well.

Always interesting when an active safety feature, like auto braking, actually puts you at higher risk of an accident (getting rear ended).

For once an added option Iā€™m glad wasnā€™t available on my 2018.

However, in my other cars you should be able to override the active braking by applying more throttle.

When it works it is a great safety feature. I had it in a company car a while back and feel it was a great feature. Good luck

Yeeeeeah... Iā€™ll do my own braking, thanks.

Like @Jeepsterfreak said, some ā€œsafety featuresā€ can put you in more jeopardy. Not to mention that when people get used to them, when they suddenly go away they donā€™t know what to do.

I donā€™t drive my wifeā€™s 4R often anymore but before I got my JLR it was our only car so I drove it every day. One feature I got used to was the beeping backup camera when you got close to stuff. When I got my JLR I noticed right away that I instinctively waited too long to brake while reversing because I was waiting for the beeps. Had to nip that shit right in the bud...

And this if after years of driving my YJ and only a few months of driving the 4R. I canā€™t imagine how ingrained these new features will be to young drivers who grow up with them.

I had a Subaru with Eyesight and it worked flawlessly. The Jeep did a similar thing to me on the highway in traffic, no warning and there was no reason but is slammed on the brakes and wouldn't release until it was fully stopped. Luckly there wasn't someone too close behind.. Turned off the active braking, not going to chance that again.
The adaptive cruise works perfectly though, love it!!
Interested to know if a problem was found.
