Looking to jump into the Jeep world for the first time. I'm curious to hear from all the experienced members here as to what your opinions are on buying a 2019 vs. waiting for 2020 models to arrive. I'm looking at getting something simple, Unlimited Sport, nothing crazy.

I figure we should be able to get a decent discount on 2019's if 2020's are going to be showing up soon. I'm in NJ and I've seen tons of 2019's on the lot. Not sure how much they move and I dont know when 2020's arrive.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks. Looking forward to finding out what Jeep life is all about!

I don’t see any reason to wait if you’re ready to buy and find a Jeep equipped how you want it. I don’t think they’ll be extra willing to deal on 19’s until the 20’s have been around a few months.

Your power plant preference might affect which year you go with. Look around at some of the other threads there is chatter about 3.6’s now costing more, there are changes to BSG availability, etc

I've really gone back and forth on the thole 3.6 vs 2.0. My very early on thoughts was no way to go any other way but 3.6. However, I've been more interested in the 2.0 with its driveability, turbo, etc. This is daily driver, city/highway and vacation. Not offroading or trails except occasional beach driving.

On the 2020 sport you can now option LED headlights. They are a huge improvement. We love our turbo BSG, but to each his own.

There might be additional colors and maybe the diesel in 2020? Check out the other threads for 2020 news. If you’re looking for one of the existing colors in a simple Sport you can probably find something now and the 19 3.6s seem to be less expensive based on other threads.

The LED options for the Sport would be nice.

Only thing holding me back is everyone commenting on the 2020 steering possible fix with new part #'s etc. I cant imagine a 2019 on the lot know having steering issues and 2020 a few months from now will be totally fine.

Another 2019 here with zero issues. Even the tires were at proper inflation when I picked it up

I have a late build 2019 (built in June) and the steering on it vs. my wife's 2018 is much tighter. I wouldn't call hers problematic, but it definitely takes more steering wheel movement at highway speed to stay straight than what I would prefer. Weirdly, she prefers her steering over mine. I'd bet whatever changes they are making were already incorporated at some point in the 2019. If you're going to buy off the lot, take it for a test drive on the highway. You'll know pretty much right away whether you like how it steers. If you like it, buy it. 2018s didn't start seeing any real discounts until around Feb-March of this year, so I wouldn't expect a 2019 to be bargain priced for quite some time.

I'm starting to look at the new ones and am interested in the changes and possible improvements. My 2 biggest concerns are reliability from the 2.0 and the soft top. Currently have a soft top and I like how the JK top folds down lower in the back. May move to a hard top with the new Jeep.
