Long story short.. Loose steering and the eventual need to upgrade the jeep led me to replacing OEM Draglink and Tierod with Steersmarts. Didn't help the loose steering at all. Dealer is telling me that FCA will likely force me to go back to OEM before proceeding with replacing the Steering Box (Mechanic who installed the steering setup identified it as the culprit), so now I'm looking for options (if indeed that is what FCA comes back with). Any recommendations? I did read a few things about tightening a bolt or two..Might give this a try before I go spend a ton of $$ (again).. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/how-to-tighten-steering.9041/page-6

Is the box damaged, causing a lot of unusual play? Or is the feel not to your liking for a steering box?

If it is damaged, I would recommend hounding them to take care of the box (with OEM steering installed on it) since it is covered under warranty. It is a pain in the butt, but they will not like seeing the SteerSmarts on there even though it had 0% to do with the box being how it is.

Otherwise, if you dont like the steering feel, and it's a preference thing. I would recommend throwing on a stabilizer with compression adjustments so you can tighten up the steering without adjusting pressure screws on the box, potentially damaging it.

Leaning that way.. Any thoughts on adjusting the steering box per https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/how-to-tighten-steering.9041/page-6 Kinda scares me a bit, but might be worth a shot..

Adjusting that screw is a risky game, but does work. If you take your time, and dont get greedy, then it can yield the results you want. It is very easy to adjust it too tightly and causing permanent damage over time.

Qq. When folks say they tightened it a 1/16 or 1/8 is that of the turn or in inches? Also, Any tricks to knowing how much to tweak it, or is it all “personal preference?”

They are saying 1/16-1/8 of a turn for each adjustment. There really is no trick besides patience. I would not make more than 1 or 2 of those adjustments personally.

Try a different dealer? I’m waiting on a backordered steering box and I have the full yeti steering.

Your dealer checked it out and was able to get FCA to approve the replacement? Even with a full Steersmarts setup? nice!!!

I took it in for my rear diff clicking. Also told them my steering was loose. Replacing whole rear diff under warranty. Called today and said the steering gear box also needs to be replaced and it’s on backorder.. So yeah it’s sounding like warranty on that as well...

Not 1 question about my mods and I have about $20k into her.
