It's frustrating.
It has happened a number of times.
It even happens when when we use the windshield wipers sometimes. And at night driving the dash becomes very dark suddenly, without the driver changing anything.

We try to increase the brightness using the switch on the dash. If we turn the dome light on, we can adjust the switch down a little--but it's too bright.

The Jeep has been back to two dealers for this to no avail.

I hope that someone can shed some light on this so we can get it fixed.

Thanks

Clarifying...when we're driving the JLU Wrangler (2019) sometimes the lights on the dash go dark

When this happens at night we can't see anything on the dash at all! The dash lights were fine, then all of a sudden the display goes dark. We haven't touched a thing.

We've had two service visits. First one the tech pointed out the switch used to brighten dash lights. If we turn it FULL BRIGHT and the dome light comes on, then notch it back just a bit, the dash lights are bright--way bright.

It's frustrating.

Got the Wrangler new September a year and a half ago.
Talked to the dealer about it. They showed us the dimmer switch for the dash lights. Thanks.
Not the first car or 4X4 we've had. Had too many cars.

Dash Lights go dim at night....not often. But it's a pain in a tender spot every time.

Next oil change we'll mention it again. And the dead spot in steering, even though the steering gear was replaced.

Still have this problem.
It was reported to the dealer several times.
Dealer didn't help. "It's a Jeep Thing"

Someone suggested going into U Connect settings. Did. Turned off the setting that turns the lights on when wipers start. No change. Didn't work.

It's a safety thing. I'm concerned.

That’s not normal. There’s no “Jeep thing” to it. I’ve not heard of this happening unintentionally outside of the screen off button or turning the infotainment off.

Sounds to me like it might be the switch itself, like the dimmer function is not working properly. That's where I'd start troubleshooting. Maybe suggest that to the service adviser or try a different dealer.

SOLUTION FOUND Had the same issue, dash dimmer had no effect on radio, it was almost unreadable during the day and night, it was very frustrating. You need to go into your radio settings on the radio itself, touch UApps scroll to settings, then display, under the display setting page there is a manual and automatic check button. You need to check automatic, then it will be bright. You can then use the right dimmer switch on the dash to dim the dash lights and radio. The left dimmer controls the ambient floor and door handle lighting if your jeep is so equipped. Hope this helps.

Why this Forum is so great ! Smart people out there who share their knowledge.
It also highlights the woeful ignorance of Dealers...
