it'll be delivered this weekend I'm going to ...
Is there a tool we can use to measure current tongue weight?
If I know the current weight I can move cargo around to adjust it.

What weight hitch did you use? Looks like you used something fairly heavy duty. Is it the correct weight for the Jeep? Also hopefully you don’t get pulled over while towing it any where. Just the sticker on the side of the trailer and the Jeep will get you a large fine. I went with a trailer as well 17fq when fully loaded I’m under the limit of the Jeep

I got the curt 17500 WD hitch with sway control
The dry camper weight is 3,477 lbs FYI
What do you mean the sticker on the jeep and trailer will get me a fine?

I have seen hitches sold with a built in scale my particular scenario I believe to be around 600lbs on Tounge but utilizing the WD hitch you'll cut that in half by distribution to the other 2 axles and eliminate 75% of Sag

It’s not as heavy as yours, but it pulls great! The JLU is actually a very god tow rig. The short overhang past the rear axle helps a lot. Mine is super stable On the freeway.

PS, I live in the mountains of oregon and tow this setup to Utah and Colorado frequently.

The issues are:
Big trucks passing you in one direction or the other
Cross wind.
Going downhill and your caravan tries to overtake you
Going downhill on a road with lots of curves.

Freeways are rarely a problem.

Lol, cool.

I’m recently retired from FedEx, 3 million miles safe driving. I’ve got a pretty good feel for what make a good tow vehicle and what doesn’t.
It’s fine if you don’t want to believe me,

Just ignore physics, I have a hard time understanding why people would set themselves up for failure? Yeah, you may get away with it but you’re increasing your chances of a serious accident greatly.

Two months ago I passed an accident, Jeep Cherokee pulling a 20’ camper drifted in the other lane killing a motorcyclist then over correcting and rolling over killing two passengers ( daughter and cousin) Driver is now waiting sentencing, probably will do 20+ years for a foolish mistake by ignoring all safety regulations.

Just ignore all safety rules, you’ll be fine, I hope all the innocent travels out there will be fine as well!

Good luck!

My JLUR happily tows my camper, it is around 2900lb loaded up but has a tongue weight of around 350lb, typically we go for 10% or a bit more for tongue weight to minimize the chance of sway, the towing weight limit on our Aussie JLU's is 5500lb and the max tongue weight is 550lb which reflects that 10%. Anyway, I can't imagine towing close to that 5500lb in hills etc, it goes great with 3000lb but I reckon I'm close to the practical limit for hilly terrain where I can accelerate up hill still :) I also have airbags and a brake controller but a Class III (2" receiver) hitch, they are the only ones available for Jeeps here as they are rated to 8000lb I think.

In this pic the airbags were not in, it was a test run to see if I needed them.... I did ;) Floaty front and soft in the back without them.

That's awsome !! If you would buy a quality WD hitch like the Curt 17500 you can Eliviate that tounge weight and sag by distributing to the other axels this will also remove any sway I was floating down I-70 in Ohio truth the hills of west Virginia and not one time did it sway or dog tail on me I also have the prodigy p3 controller and run it s 9.5 and have no issues of pushing or breaking that's with 3,477 lb camper and 3 passengers

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I always say, "Everything is okay until it is not okay." I think that you will be fine towing your set up as long as you take the precautions each time you tow. I find that people get lazy over time and stop taking the extra steps to be safe. Like making sure you have loaded the trailer correctly, keeping the tires inflated correctly, servicing the trailer brakes when needed, ensuring the trailer wiring is in good condition, It is easy over time to just keep putting stuff in the camper and adding even more weight. I know this as I camp a lot and my wife is constantly trying to add additional stuff. It all adds up.

The big thing is you will get the feel for how it tows. If something doesn't feel right, stop and address it. Don't just say, hey at the next gas stop, I need to check this or that or when I get home, I need to do this..

20 years for manslaughter....... maybe the max end of the sentence, probably will serve about 5 unless he is an asshole in prison. Then maybe a little longer.

Deosn't really need a WD hitch, the airbags will do the job, also my camper sees some hard offroad and the WDH don't work offroad ;)

By the way, after about 30 years of working in prison, nobody does 20 years for any type of manslaughter unless the person is a straight up asshole and stays in trouble while in prison or they plea bargained a different kind of murder to manslaughter and the judge or prosecutor stays on top of the game for a long time and interferes with the person trying to get paroled.
Thanks man and yeah I know all about the manslaughter stuff my Dad was in an accident that killed 2 ppl it wasn't even his fault but he did 3yrs for it an that was the max either way as I've said I'm only here trying to show the jeep community that they can indeed tow the max weight of 3500lbs safely as I've stated before my camper is 3,477lbs dry when loaded properly around 3,600 we don't bring alot of stuff as we're weekend campers an work full time jobs I know the tounge weight is over about 200lbs but that's eliviated by the WD hitch I spent weeks trying to find anyone online who had towed this much weight and find none I kept seeing posts of ppl asking if it was possible and what was it like an guess what all u would get is negative comments from people who have not towed this weight before or even close so that's why I made this thread an why I documented all the modifications I made to haul the camper I have a 11yr old son wife an 85yr old grandmother I support an love with my entire being I just lost my grandfather last year in a car wreck so trust me when I say I would never want to harm anyone and after multiple test runs I concluded that it was safe and not an issue I also own a gmc Sierra 1500 so it's not a issue to use the truck but it's to prove a point of the 4door JLU 3.6L is a capable tow vehicle and people shouldn't be afraid to do so
