I remember articles in some old car magazines. They recommended pouring water into the the carb while engine was running to steam clean intakes. Kind of like a steam injection? lol. I believe Sea Foam is the preferred cleanser over water today.
I wonder if this is the answer for direct injection motors...

If I were to try, it would be distilled water. I have used CRC GDI cleaner as a preventative on my 3.5 eco boost with no ill affect. It wasn’t run too hot and I sprayed sparingly. It probably took about 20+ mins to empty the can. Sooty smoke show upon restart.

BMW and MINIs answer for carbon build up in direct injection engines is crushed walnut shells. They removed the intake and blast the carbon with the walnut shells. Like a sand blaster. They suck out the shells and carbon and any remaining shells burn off and get blown out the exhaust.

That’s why Ford added the port injector back to the ‘18 3.5 EB.

My 2019 2.0T is American. Interesting...

Yeah, the 2.0 is made in both Italy and the US. For now anyway? I would think Italy is probably shut down now?

Agreed - not likely we'll see much out of Italy for awhile.

Has anyone seen an assembly breakout of the 2.0 yet? All I can find are the stock photos of the completed engine. I would like to see how it's put together. Sure runs strong!
