I just can't believe the price of the "basic utilitarian" Jeep Wrangler is going to be higher than the Grand Cherokee. Add the Hurricane 4 cylinder and automatic and you're way over the GC. Give me a stripped model with rubber floor liners and vinyl seats for under $30k.
People want the Wrangler and don't want the Cherokee.

Similar reason the Merc G-wagen costs more than a GLS or GLE.

The G-wagen was meant to be a luxury cruiser. You would never see them out on a trail or getting muddy. The Wrangler started out as the only "true" off road purpose built vehicle available here in the US. It's just that the Unlimited brought the Wrangler into the mainstream SUV market.

Forget what the Kardashians drive around in, I'd be calling up the folks at Mastodon to build me something like this if money was no object and I already had a stable of Jeeps...and there is a military lineage as well...

Sorry, I took this a bit off of the original topic.

When I bought my 2008 JKU there was an actual factory rebate on it I think it was $1500. Never saw that again on a Wrangler.

Those were the days, Armycop! Bought my black 2008 JKU in May '08 in Annapolis (MD) for $750 under invoice, then the factory rebate subtracted from that number, then a $1,000 "financing incentive" subtracted from that number. Brought me into the mid $20's for a loaded Sahara. Never saw those numbers again. Sold my '08 when the economy rebounded a few years ago for almost as much as I paid for it. I figure when all is said and done in 2018 and I actually go to pull the trigger on a new JLU Sahara (which is then likely to be the 2019 JLU model), even at 1% below invoice it will easily push $45,000+. Ouch! May have to consider hanging on longer to the '16 JKU I bought used a few months back. BTW, Go Navy, Beat Army!

I'm hoping the major price increase on the base Sport was because the "S" package equipment is standard now with 32" tires and 17"rims included. No more fugly 16" steel rims with roller skate size tires. Only three more weeks left...

I think it will depend on your build. I would have bought a sport s unlimited with side airbags, connectivity, 3.73 gears, premium soft top, and LED lighting group. That comes with AC, better wheels, power convenience. On the JLU at least the wheels, side airbags, and gearing will be standard and the LED group isn't an option. I think my price will be about the same.

dealer I spoke with said I was looking at 30k for jl. also would not get more than 1500 discount on jk models. I don't have a trade it
so for about the same money to buy a jk I can get a jl...... guess I will build a jl since the price is not that much different

1500 discount on a JK? I bought my 2017 JKUR a few months ago and got a little over 5000 off sticker.
There must be better JK deals in Bama.

I think when I walk in with money he will be willing to deal. but for now I will wait for the jl. I like the 4 port switch so I don't have to add it.

I'm betting some of the dealers in my area will have that additional dealer profit sticker for the markup for a couple months.
