Reverse lights are horrible I must admit.

Slap one of these on and you'll light up everything..works beautifully

I hate to bring up an old thread but you dropped this pic and never really elaborated on the details. Just trying to figure out the mount you have to get that cube on there?

So I can’t install brighter reverse bulbs into the rear light housing?

No, there are no bulbs to replace. It’s one lighting unit not a housing. You can’t change individual bulbs. I don’t know of any factory reverse lights that are really sufficient, I installed rigid lights in my LOD bumper.

I had the same issue with my Halogen backups. i replaced them with high powered aftermarket, inexpensive LED's, and they are fantastic.
If you have factory LED's, you might be S.O.L.
I have seem many people add a remote light or two, to the rear bumper area, to improve the backup lighting.
I would like to see a system that could be tastefully be added to the spare tire/third brake light area.

Poor backup visibility is a Wrangler tradition that precedes both JL and LEDs. Backing up with my JKs in the wet winter darkness was just terrible. I almost backed up into my neighbor’s vehicles and trash cans a few times when they left them there right on the street.

Trying to see through a soft top rear curtain covered in drizzle is the worst.

The BrandMotion backup camera I added to my JKs didn’t help in the dark. The factory camera now standard on JL is so much brighter it helps a lot in that regard. And the backup sensors included in the Safety Group greatly enhance rear “visibility.”

At the end of the day the Wrangler is a DOT approved road vehicle. Your reverse lights aren't for you to see, but for others to see you. You would need to install some pods or a light bar/some external light source.

Art, in all due respect, that reply isn’t helping the thread.

My wife or I can barely see our driveway when I back up at night at our house that is in suburbia.

The discussion isn’t about the lights being DOT approved or not, the discussion is about barely seeing the ashphalt driveway behind us while backing up unless I hit the brake pedal to cast additional light.

thanks,

Okay, it isn't a Wrangler specific thing. No road going vehicle has extra light that shines to let you see in reverse. Before back up cams you used the mirrors. The lights are the lights and if you can't see you just gotta add more lights.

you never read my initial post, it simply about replacing the existing reverse light bulbs with brighter bulbs.

not adding any additional light sources.

Every other LED light in the LED package works awesome EXCEPT for the back up lights. I added the Rigid SR-Q Pro Series backup lights wired to one of my Aux switches so I can use them while parked as well. Easy install and very bright!
