Pennzoil is all GTL and prone to shearing.
That's exactly what the oil analysis reports stated when used samples of Pennzoil Platinum and Ultra Platinum were submitted for testing.

The absence of that text on the reports for the other two 5W-30 synthetics I've used in the Jeep, Mobil 1* and Castrol Edge, informed my decision to never have another jug of Pennzoil darken the doorway of my garage.

The foregoing illustrates very plainly the value proposition of a testing service.

*Just the regular Advanced Full Synthetic, not the Extended Performance version. Same with Castrol.

2021 JLU w/2.0T and an owner that never hoons it.

Why not extended performance? It's only $27 at Walmart

My oil changes are performed every 5K miles, if not a bit less. I'd get no practical value from the extended service intervals that EP oils claim to accommodate. This is doubly true when such oils are sold at a premium, depending on the place of purchase.

I see claims on EP oil bottles of "protection up to 20,000 miles". Nope. Not for me.

But I will go with Extended Performance just for some more peace of mind 😄

What air filter are you using? I saw my silicon spike when I installed a K&N filter. Switched back to OEM or Wix and all’s been good.
Same. DO NOT USE K&N you will trash the engine.

Mine was horrific, showed excessive wear, tons of silicon, plus iron etc.

Back to OEM paper, new oil sent off and waiting for the results to check how it is.

Thanks for sharing. I am not messing around with filters, filters are technically part of the engine so only OEM for me.

I came across this Amsoil Signature Series 0w20 on our 3.6, look how amazingly it has kept its viscosity, after 5000 miles it is still better than virgin PUP 0w20 ☹ Amsoil is so freaking legit.

Just curious, I’ve ran only 90-Octane NO Ethanol in my wrangler other than 1-3 full tanks while traveling (Couldn’t find a QuikTrip with my preferred Fuel). I’ve read the quality of Gas and frequency of oil ultimately determines the engines performance overall longevity. The pentastar V6 seems to love this blend of fuel, when we had any other kind of a gas in our Grand cherokee or wrangler. You can hear the engines more pronounced accessory noises.

Am I crazy for believing that ultimately this is going to lead to less damage and wear and tear overall? I also use manual mode and wind down the engine never over 3,500-800 rpm’s to help engine brake. A little birdy advised this helps Heat And burn the fuel more efficiently at times. My V6 has a deep burly tone that is clear and grovels at times but sounds better than any other stock V6 I’ve heard. Does the premium gas and frequent oil changes in fact have any impact on any of these factors?

We have 92 here, it is Top tier too, a whopping $1 more than regular 🫣 You sure 92 Premium gas won't hurt our 3.6? We are not supercars.

After reading oil threads after oil threads in different Forum's, I sure wish that I had the money that is spent on oil analysis lab reports..LOL In these Forums, I am in the minority, when I say that in most cases, they are a waste of money. Just a piece of paper. But if one thinks that they may have a problem, with an engine tick, overheating problem, or something else, if applicable, then one maybe justified. At the approx. $40 cost per test, I can change my oil and filter for less than that. So, I will just keep changing my engine oil every 3000K. These VVT systems appear to love clean oil, in both the 3.6, and 392 engines. Just make sure that your thermostat is working properly to burn off the condensation, and that one keeps a usable quality MOPAR air filter in use, plus check one's air induction clamps to keep out unfiltered Silicon (dirt) and you should be good to go........

Speaking of Mopar filters, I got three genuine ones for $78 through Mopar online order and picked them up from the Jeep Stealership 😃👍 They charge $55 for one ☹👎

Disciplined oil change intervals can absolutely have a positive effect on the health of direct-injection engines, of which I've two in the garage as I type this post. Possibly such recurrent OCIs are a bit less critical on port-injection engines such as your Pentastar.

I take the broad view that one's use case, paired with a decent concern for the long-term health of the engine, should inform how frequently the oil is changed in any vehicle.

From new, I have fed the 2.0T in my JLU 90+ octane only, but that's a personal choice.

The recommendation to ditch the 0w-20 isn't so much for engine wear but to protect the rocker arms that tend to fail. The 5k mile interval we suggest is also depending on driving habits. If you do a lot of highway driving then the ~7500 that the manual recommends is fine. If you find yourself doing a lot of city driving with red lights then a lower interval is suggested. The OLM doesn't do a very good job when it comes to excessive idling, which is the biggest factor to oil intervals.

The 2.0L on the other hand can suffer from fuel dilution and other nonsense as a result of the direct injection system. I would not run extended OCIs on those engines regardless of driving habits. Honda recently had a perfect example of this due to their extended OCIs and DI causing massive fuel dilution.

In May I will use PUP 5w30 and then offroad the crap out of my Jeep. After 4000 miles of summer driving I will analyze the oil. If wear metals look normal then I will keep using 5w30. They say PUP 5w30 very quickly shears to a thick 0w20(Like virgin level PUP 0w20) and then stays there. I would love that 😃👍
