The Jeep Wrangler is finally going to get LED headlights and it's starting before you think.

Addressing the much maligned halogen bulbs on the current model Wrangler, FCA has decided that the 2017 Jeep Wrangler will be the first to get the LED headlights and fog lights, ahead of the JL Wrangler debut for the 2018 model year.

The new LED lights will be standard on the Sahara and Rubicon models and optional on the Sport and Sport S trims.

The current halogen lamps have ranked among the worst on the market by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Jeep promises the new high beams will bring with it a 90% increase in light.

In a further signal of what to expect for the 2018 Wrangler and beyond, Jeep will be adding several package options including a cold weather group option for Sport S and Rubicon, with 17-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires, an engine block heater, slush mats, power convenience group, heated seats, and remote start.

There will also be new paint colors Acid Yellow, XTreme Purple, Chief and Gobi, available for the entire lineup.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Fact Sheet:

New for 2017

  • 2017 Jeep® Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited models receive new LED headlights and fog lamps (Optional on Sport and Sport S and standard on Sahara and Rubicon models)

Good on Jeep to give JK buyers a well needed lighting upgrade even before the JL. I'm impressed.

Looks like we weren't seeing things and the JL mule was sporting LED's.

Nice, so the speculation that those were LEDs on the prototypes was correct. The Renegade also got a nice interior/tech update, so the JL is shaping up to feature some nice new technology inside and outside I think.

Nice look and upgrade. Hope LED are standard on all JL models. Really should be no reason why any car comes with halogens. Xenon and LEDs have been around for years now.

I think the reason for the final year upgrade is because the JK and JL will be produced simultaneously for at least a year. At this late stage the JK must be more profitable and they'll have to provide added features for it to be chosen over the newest model.

Good on Jeep to upgrade the JK even in its final year. It'll make deciding between the JK and JL even more difficult as there's sure to be some good deals on the outgoing model.

Very nice hope it's standard in the JL
I think LED lights will be standard on the higher trim JL models but optional on the lower models, like how it is for the JK right now.

And it looks like the JL's LED lights will have a different design. The leaked pics from dealer meeting show a different looking light pattern than the JK ones.

Think you're right. Definitely nothing in the 2017 LED headlights that would create a separation line seen in the dealer meeting pics. Glad to see it'll be a different design. Exterior wise the JL is already not going to be much of a departure so any small updates like this are welcome.

I doubt FCA would design and build a part and only use it for one MY. My guess is these will be on the JL.

I heard they were forced to upgrade their headlights by the gub'ment. FCA likely bought something off the shelf for the '17, but held back on what is planned for the '18.
