Hi,

Im in the market for a complete skid plate kit for my manual 2 doors Rubicon. I've seen some kit doesn't fit with the manual transmission.

2 vs 4 doors: the only difference will be the gas tank skid ? Engine, transmission, t-case and exhaust skid should be the same ?

Steel vs aluminum: does aluminum really make a difference in weight?
When taking a hit, aluminum might flex and return to normal, but how easy it is to bend a 3/16" or 1/4" steel plate ?

I'm here for any recommendations. What did you go with ? Are you happy with it ?

Thanks!

I went with Mountain off road also but skipped the Gas tank skid as the factory unit is steel and prettywell protected IMO.

I have the Metalcloak on mine and so far its holding up extremely well. I was missing a bracket in the box, pretty sure it escaped in shipping and they had another overnighted when I called. For sure would recommend it to anyone.

I agree that if you are going for the full package the Metal CLoak is the way to go. I have several of their products on other things and the quality is great.

I bent an aluminum Asfir engine skid plate on my 2.0, ended up getting a Next Venture when they still sold individual sections.

Here's the one for a 3.6: https://nextventuremotorsports.com/...roducts/jl-2-door-aluminum-belly-skids-3-6-v6
Bobby over at Motobilt convinced me to go Steel from the start. Chasing weight in a JL is an exercise in futility and this weight is in the best possible location being so low. Just sucks the skid from them is only 4 door cause I like how it runs down both sides of the frame.

It's a hard for me to accept adding weight... but it might have served me better in this case. I actually had a M.O.R.E. (steel) engine skid at first, but it was incompatible with my 2018 2-door's gas tank (they're 1 gallon larger). I think they may have modified the design since.

The Next Venture skid is a better design than the Asfir IMO. Not sure how it will hold up, but I got the UHMW option.

Also it looks like they do still sell the individual pieces, I was just looking in the wrong spot: https://nextventuremotorsports.com/...-3-6-v6-engine-trans-mod-skid-kit-7000-series

I actually have a MORE 4 door skid that I plan to cut to fit my 2 door. From all the pictures I’ve seen, it’s the same basic skid, but the 2 door is clearanced on one side for the gas tank. Hopefully it doesn’t kill my angle grinder hahaha

Artec engine/trans skid plus MORE aluminum transfer case skid is what I run.
