I am new to having my 2 door JL, I have a hard top, I like it and have a hoist so its pretty easy to remove my top, but am thinking about getting a soft top.

Wanting to get it for 2 main reasons:
1. for versatility for the TX fall/winter/spring weather being all over the place
2. for when driving to beach, keeping top on for highway, then take it all off when at beach for weekend

I like mopar best because it can completely go down, but there is no where to put the windows, so if you have anything you want to keep in your jeep, or have anyone in back seat, it seems basically pointless because the windows take up all the space. Unless i am not right about that, then please explain.

So from there i like the bestop trektop slantback, but again no where to put windows. I've also looked at the RR voyager top, but not sure of the quality of that one, but it brings up something pretty cool, where you can put windows up top of roll cage. So I wondered with the trektop can you have a sunshade on the back half of the roll cage and use that to support putting windows on the sunshade between the soft top and roll cage, see pics below for explanation of what i am saying with windows, and description of voyager top.

Other thing is if there are others ways you have figured out how to handle the windows and enjoy soft top with 2 door and still be able to have other stuff/people in it too, i would like to hear about it and see pics.

Also am curious opinions about is it worth having mopar to go all the way down, vs just a sunrider/safari.

I dumped a lot of questions into this, and i may be missing stuff too, cuz there is the suntop option also, and who knows what else i haven't looked at...

The fastback tops with storage in the upper rear section are nice for window storage and all but typically are not solid/robust tops like the OEM ones unfortunately. I had one for my JK and it was pretty much frameless and hard to live with for commuting and other "car" like duty. The OEM and Bestop options are now all zipper-less (good) but it makes storing the windows harder since you can't roll them or fold them up. I put my JLU soft top back on today since it's so warm here and will probably just leave the windows at home vs carry them around. Haven't found a good way to store them in the jeep, the 1/2 doors too... hard to carry all that crap around.

I have a hard top and bought a Mopar soft top off of a fellow forum member. I love the ease of use and the fact it can be put in four positions. As for storing the windows I just leave them at home when I go out. As for going to Moab and such, we take the drive with top and windows in and then when we arrive we just throw the windows in the hotel room. Hope this helps, I just don’t bother storing them in the Jeep.

Retired and loving it!
There are any number of soft top window bags on Amazon and Google. I just purchased a window bag from HERE. When the windows are out and in the bag I keep the bag in the garage.

When I take them off, they stay on a shelf in the garage.

I live in Galveston county. I've had the jeep for a year now. We have random unexpected hard rain showers all year round. My answers would be different if I lived in the desert.
I use my back seat to carry grandkids so my window storage options are limited.
I took the windows out a couple of times, and they will fit behind the front seat and will also fit in the boot.
But I've found that sunrider mode with the OEM softop opens up ALL the front seat and 75% of the rear seats and that's plenty good for me. It's just not worth taking out the windows.

During the heat of summer I often prefer to close the top and take the doors off. The sun bakes you pretty hard. I've looked at the slant back with the built in window storage and may buy it when my OEM soft top needs replacing.

Sunrider plus doors off is EXTREMELY open. I purchased the @Bestop two piece fabric doors and really like them. They are finicky, somewhat difficult to latch and unlatch (my wife isn't strong enough so I need to walk around and open the door to let her out). BUT, they are very light, very thin, and will store in the boot. So I am protected if it looks like rain I can just pull them out of the boot and put them on. I can drive 70 mph with the doors over the big Baytown bridge. My plan is to use the fabric doors to drive to the beach, then store them in the boot so we can drive on the sand without doors. Note: driving on the highway without doors is way to blowy. Not fun. Buffets my ears too much.

This weekend I ran with just the lower half door sections which look pretty cool.

Click my build thread below and read more.

FYI – I just purchase a set of Bestop fabric doors for my jeep. Highly recommended if you like the “doors off” beach driving but want to be prepared for rain and such.

I'm completely hooked on the doors off feeling - as long as the speed is below 35 mph. Above 35 and it's a bit blowy, my hat flies off, not all that fun. And I still have the issue where I need to drive on the highway to get to the beach, or drive 45 on a big road around town. We also have Houston random hard rain storms with zero warning. So I purchased the @Bestop Fabric doors. Highly recommended. I drive with the half door bottoms installed and the uppers fit easily in the back. In case of rain you can pop the uppers in/out in about 5 minutes. In case of beach you can remove the lower half doors and they fit in the boot.

Amazon.com: Bestop 5175035 Black Diamond 2-Piece Fabric Front Doors For 2018-Current Jeep Wrangler JL,4 : Automotive

Pay attention and make sure you get the ones for the 2018 JL
And buy the front ones.

Amazon.com: Lange Originals | Coyote Mirror™ | Compatible with Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator | Quick Removal Replacement Mirrors : Automotive

Mirrors, easy to install, easy to take on/off

Meanwhile, here are some photos. They look good. Don't leak enough to matter. Are extremely easy to take on/off, and will store in the back of my 2door. They meet my needs for a way to drive on the freeway and minimize wind blowiness (is that a word).

Pic 1 – shows the upper in the boot. The lowers will also fit and still live a bit of room for groceries. Note the rear seat is installed and can hold grandkids.

Pic 2 – shows the upper attached to the lower. Kinda ugly, but it keeps the rain out, and it keeps the wind out while I drive 70 mph on the causeway to Galveston. At which point I can take both upper and lower off and drive doorless in Galveston.

Pic 3 – just the lower door, the upper is in the boot. I like this look.

also thanks for this writeup. i saw those lange mirrors and thought they were pretty sweet. i also think your door setup is nice too, it all makes too much sense to easily take doors off, and store. also, the thought of just doing sunrider and leaving windows in makes a lot of sense, where its not worth it to take the windows out. thanks this helps, much appreciated.

When boondocking I leave them in the cab of my truck. The rear seat folds up with a flat floor. Doors go in first and windows and rear window lay flat on top. When at home I just leave the windows on the kitchen table.

Leaving them flat on top of the seat, you're not concerned they might fly out when you get up to speed?

I ALWAYS carry my windows with me in the 2-dr. Gotta have them for cross country trips. It takes some trial and error, but I am able to fit my windows, half door uppers and rear window behind the rear seat.
I stand the side windows up, one against the back seat, bring the top down, shove the other in, then add the uppers. I then roll the rear window sideways (left to right), strap around it and either put it in the little tub under the floor or set it in the cargo area behind the back seat. I also run two straps around the folded top and around the rear window bar (which stays in it's home) to cinch it all down.

Yes, it's a tight fit. Yes, if there's dirt/grime on the plastic windows they'll scuff. IMO they're gonna scuff eventually anyway, and leaving them at home is not an option. Three people in the Jeep along with luggage, supplies, etc means all that shit just has to be stored behind the rear seat.

Hey, that's two door Jeep life.... Finding ways to pack 150-lbs of shit in a 10-lb bag since 1941...lol

I was able to fit all the windows in the factory soft top window storage bag in the back behind the seat with it in the normal position. I had to wrap the sides of the bag in, but the storage bag has felt dividers that helped to prevent scratching of the windows when they are stored back there. It blocks most of the rear view, but the soft top pretty much does that when it is down anyway.
