Dee Zee has a no-drill option for hard tops...it has feet that sit on top of the roof, so it can support more weight than typical (200lbs per 24" section). You can use two of their 24" racks on 2dr or JTs for full roof coverage (in theory, 400lbs distributed). There's a photo here with two racks on a JT:

I don't know for sure, but given the design of this system, I believe the 4dr version could be used to fit just the rear portion of the top if you want to keep the ability to remove the freedom panels and have something a bit bigger than 24". You could cut the side rails down or potentially just leave them long. I'm fairly certain you can use the extra feet and crossbars from the front section on the back for a pretty stout setup for a short-ish rack.

Here’s a basic sporting good store set up. Thule rain gutter towers and square bars, with an ordinary cargo box. I traded a 12 pack for the towers. Bought the bars new and have had the box for maybe 10 years. I’m off to the Mojave road tomorrow. The box will come off as soon as I’m back. It had a quick release system.

Question regarding the Maximus Roof Rack and installing a RTT. Is there enough space to fit a hand plus tools between the rack and the hard top? Or any suggestions on how to go about installing a RTT. From the specs and pictures it seems like it would be hard to install a RTT due to the low profile. Thanks!

So here it is, the Front Runner Extreme rack on the 2dr JL. This is a ' through the roof' rack that bolts to brackets that are mounted to the roll bars. The front bar goes down to a plate that has holes to mount ditch lights.(P.S, we pay higher taxes in California to get summer weather in December, lol)

No, they still need to finish the R&D. For example, I can't take my freedom tops off because they used existing roof brackets from either the 4 door or Gladiator (to do so, I need to takeoff the front wind deflector <only my rack will be like this obviously>). So they have to redesign that, Really, I don't think there is a lot else to change but who knows. You can email them directly.

Shawn, I reached out to front runner and can’t wait till the release in March timeframe for the rest of us. I looked up their dimensions for the JK 2 door rack and assume they are the same. Any chance you can measure the rack length and width? Trying to decide on wither to get a new rooftop tent ?

I'll try to remember to measure it. It's about the same dimensions as the surface of the roof. Another reason I wanted it. I have the smittybuilt overland XL roof top tent. I don't know if I want to make my 2dr that top heavy, so I'll probably sell the tent

So I'm currently putting together a wish list while I eagerly and impatiently wait for my built-to-order Jeep to arrive.

Looking for a good rack/RTT mount setup and it appears the general consensus is that gutter mounted systems or hardtop only supported racks are not strong enough to support the full load.

With that said, are these currently the 3 best and possibly only options out there currently?

The Gobi rack seems like the better rack and the best looking.

I think the Dee-Zee rack will work just fine with a regular size RTT and on gravel road or easy off roaring. It's also a very cheap option.

I like the Gobi, but man it's the most expensive haha. 1800 for a rack, is a little steep for me.

For the Dee-Zee , are you referring to this one? https://www.deezee.com/product/roof-rack/ If yes, which length are people getting, the 60"? Wouldn't that go over the freedom panels?

The Gobi rack is close to 3000$ for Canadians.
Yes, for the 2 doors, i think you would need 2 of the 24 inch Dee-Zee.

I am waiting for the smittybilt cage rack for the 2 doors as it should be around 800$ Canadian dollars. I will go to a welded and have all my accessories welder on.

Man how do you guys afford to buy anything haha.

I seen that smittybilt cage referenced in this chat. Is there a projected date on when that supposed to come out?
