Are the manuals really better mpg on the highway? Fueleconomy.gov lists the JL 2 door V-6 auto at 18/23 mpg and the JL V-6 manual at 17/25. Why the better auto performance in the city and better manual performance on the highway?

I have a 2019 JL with the manual, 35-inch tires, and it hasn't been regeared yet... I average like 14 miles a gallon, best I've seen is 15 and that's when I drove to Colorado.

I too have a stock 2 door Sport (Sport S) with a 3.6 V6 and automatic transmission. I get an average of 22 mpg in mixed driving and have gotten over 30 on the highway (65 on cruise control). The worst I have gotten is 17.71 mpg in all city driving.

2018 2 door sport V6 with manual transmission. All my driving is mixed, highway/city, and I get 23-24 from tank to tank. I have run my tank down to where the low fuel light cam on (50 miles left per RTE) down to 25 miles left per RTE where it switched to LOW FUEL.. Went 25 more miles before getting gas and still could only take 16.5 gallons. Dealer says this is normal. Anyone else experience this?

2018 Jeep JL Rubicon & 2004 Jeep TJ. Previously owned 1993 Cherokee, 1980 CJ5, & M151A2 while in the Military. For the love of Jeeps !
It’s true.... I have the 2dr JL, 3.6 Ltr, 6speed Manual Rubicon.
True....it gets great mileage in city. The Magic speed is between 40 and 55 MPH. In that zone I can easily obtain mileage in the high 20’s.
On the Hwy the magic numbers are 55-65.
I just returned from a 2500 mile Hunting trip. Averaged 22.3 MPG on the first leg with a loaded rig. 21.3 on the return trip with a heavier rig.
IF...your willing to SLOW your your pace a little, and not racing To get up to speed, the Manual transmission gets very impressive mileage....and on the plus side....you will probably extend the service life of the engine beyond the normal. If your planning on keeping your Jeep...that is a benefit...but if it’s temporary....who cares..Damn the torpedoes....Full speed ahead !

Seems like a good place to stick this.
I had to work for it, especially with all the rolling hills between Birmingham and Atlanta. 50mph at the top of the hill, easy throttle to 75+ to the bottom. Required a lot of patience and time to spare. JLR 6-speed.
Jeep Wrangler JL 2 door JL mpg? Auto better in city with manual better on highway? 29DC50FB-2E59-42AA-B4CB-C9C123A603EA

That’s totally normal. There should be about two gallons of fuel left when you hit “zero” miles till empty. Instead of making it accurate, which would be useful, they build in wiggle room for the idiots who push it to its limit.

If you are concerned with MPG, you are looking at the wrong vehicle.

Wrangler MPG ranges from barely acceptable to atrocious.

I agree with not being concerned about MPG when owning a Wrangler. Heck, it's a box on wheels with very poor aerodynamics.

However, my 2018 gets 18-19 mpg's and it's lifted, with 37's, 4.10 gears, AND being driven by a 17 yr old boy. My stock 2019 Wrangler driven by my wife gets 21 mpg. In both cases I am very happy with the MPG's.

Maybe I'm happy because I'm used to having lifted Jeep's get 12-14 mpg. It's all about perspective.

Jeepless but still a fan.
@Lightsped Happy to help explain this. Technically speaking manuals are capable of better mpg, albeit slightly, in all conditions. The differing factor is you need to choose to drive your manual in a way that makes that mileage happen...and avoiding the boring method of driving is a huge reason many...not all but many...people buy manuals. The reason most people see better mpg in autos in the city is because, unless I put my foot in the oil pan, the computer is shifting at exactly the optimum (boring) points at all times. On the highway, the numbers get really, really close because of the locking torque converter, but the manual still edges ahead barely.

Are FUEL ECONOMY differences, on a wrangler, worth considering when thinking of manual vs auto? IMO not at all, but YMMV.

I have a base 2 door Sport, 2.0T, E torque. Stock gearing and tires. I get in the mid to high 20s, 30 on steady speed 55 .mph. Performance and economy in a Wrangler, who knew...

2dr. Rubicon 6sp, 35" Pat's on bead locks, re-geared to 4.88. Just now at 29k miles and my life time average is right at 20mpg. I seem to do best running between 50-60mph.

Maybe a nice Prius.... (not too good off road tho) Pick your battlefield and fill the tank when it's empty.
