I am debating on going cheap (RC) to Expensive (too many options to list) spacer lift. I want to keep the original ride, so not sure I'm ready to mess with new springs and such (which might be an option down the road, so don't want to pay for parts twice)...

Goal#1: Don't make the daily driver ride worse (yes, I know its a Jeep).. Improved ride would be awesome, but short of an air-ride system, I thought factory JLUR rides fantastic.

Question 1: Should I use the shock extensions or buy new shocks (leaning to the "new shocks)?
Question 2: What would folks recommend for replacement shocks if I really like a smooth ride (mostly a mall crawler with some weekend trips)?
Question 3: 2.5" of lift, it doesn't throw off the geometry a whole lot, but its enough.. Should I replace all lower control arms, lower and upper, or just front? Basically, want to set myself up for the next stage of lift, but might wait a few years...

I believe a spacer lift will create a harsher ride than going with a lift with replacement springs. Dynatrac, Rancho or even purchasing additional components to go with a Mopar lift would be a wiser option. I'm sure there are numerous additional lifts that would also fit your needs. I personally can't comment on them.

  1. New shocks will definitely ride better than stockies on extensions. Fox Performance Series is absolutely great, but Rancho RS5000s are a good compromise if cost is your concern
  2. damn i already answered that in question 1. Im getting ahead of myself.
  3. OK! im back on track! If this is your "Stage 1 cheapie lift" of where you are at with your Jeep, I would recommend doing control arm relocation brackets for now, that way you arent ditching a bunch of money or replacing big things later. Two good options are the Rancho (LINK) and the Teraflex (LINK) for some more boxed strength.
Let me know if you have any other questions or want more in depth analysis!

Thanks John.. @OffRoadWarehouse oddly enough, I used to shop with you while I was in the Navy and based out in your backyard (San Diego).. I miss the trips down to Mexico or event the rock climbing in just about any direction you head.. Used to have all sorts of fun down that way in the early-mid 90's.. Certainly don't have that out here in Ohio, but we are starting to see a few trails pop up.. So,,a couple of questions for you (or anyone, feel free to chime in).. I've read countless thoughts on what lift kits are good vs. bad vs. best.. If I wanted a small lift kit (2 to 2.5"), which kit is the most complete and best buy for the money? Keep in mind, I want to improve the already incredible ride of the JLUR, but I'd like to give some aftermarket wheels & tires (20x10 -18s w/35's) some room to move around.

Assuming I don't have the most complete of garage's, if you have any thoughts to how much an install would typically run for the lift kit you propose, it sure would be helpful.. @OffRoadWarehouse
