2.0L suddenly overheated

2021 Willys with 16000 miles.

Driving home from my daughter's softball game on Saturday, I noticed the heat wasn't really working. Flipped over to the temperature and ut was rapidly rising, and the fan was running. Outside temp in the low 40s. Highway speed, around 65mph.

Before I knew it, temp hit 255 and the red warning screen came on. Pulled over, got a tow and now it's waiting at the dealership. Snapped a few pics to show the puddle underneath.

After reading a few things here, maybe a loose connection? Anything I should talk to the dealership about specifically?

Did you happen to lift the hood and look to see if you could notice where the initial flow of coolant was coming from?

Could be caused by a radiator hose leak or a water pump fail or a hole in the radiator or ???

Should be rather simple for the dealership service department to figure out exactly where the leak is originating.

Nothing obvious when I opened it up. Crawled underneath too and didn't see anything other than what you see in the pics. Not as familiar with this engine as I am with GM small blocks so I may have missed the obvious.

I'm not familiar with the 2.0 turbo as I have the 3.6 but it looks like the turbo is liquid cooled also which is where the coolant could be coming from?

You couldn't see the leak because the coolant was all gone by this point. They'll fill it up, it will come pouring out, and then they'll fix it. Check that head gasket though.

I guess loose water pump bolts and bad water pump gaskets have caused this
I've read too.

Has happened to a few of us here, and often is a bad or incompletely attached hose clamp. I hope that's all it is, as that's a 30 minute fix, once the dealer gets to it.

Isnt the turbo cooled with by oil? or is it in fact coolant? I guess I’m not sure.

I’ve never heard of a turbo being cooled by anything other than oil, from what I’ve seen the 2.0 takes 6 quarts and all my Audi/VW have been 7 quarts and the turbo was definitely oil cooled. Normally aspirated 4 cylinders even larger like 2.5 have been 4-5 quarts. So I’m guessing it’s cooled by oil.

Every American made a vehicle with a turbo I’m familiar with is water cooled.

Well, gas engines, that is.

So I posted about this a few months ago on the 2.0l 4cyl-there;s a TSB out to this- the water pump bolt was improperly torqued and caused this issue. Maybe this was the case for you. Best of luck and keep the jeep wave going.
