I know the owners manual says to use 91 or higher with the 2.0 engine. It also says that you can use 87 octane. I’ve just started using 87 after 1500 miles and I’m finding I get better gas mileage with using 87. So far I’ve encountered no issues with 87. So my question is what octane is everyone using and do you see improved mileage using 87 or any issues using 87?
Cold winter air is denser so the performance difference might be less noticeable compared to the warmer summer temps. Performance wise I am sure you will like driving your 2.0 with 91 in the summer. What's weird is you probably are running winter blend gas now which does not make as much energy? You should be getting worse mpg in winter even taking longer warm up times.

I’ve been using 87. But another thread mentioned something about possible voiding warranty if you use 87?
I’ve been amazed at mileage . I drive very conservatively, here in NorCal but combined city highway dash says about 24-25.

My supplied Jeep Owners manual says 87 is minimum acceptable octane and 91 preferred. I see no warranty issue with 87 based on what Jeep included in my Owners manual.

my 2 cents rch

91 is what’s available here and always that. I’ve determined that 91 provides improved mpg over 87, how much I really could care less.

directly from the Jeep Manual "
"FUEL REQUIREMENTS
2.0L Engine

This engine is designed to meet all emission regulations, and provide satisfactory fuel economy and performance when using high-quality unleaded “Regular” gasoline having a posted octane number of 87 as specified by the (R+M)/2 method. For optimal performance the use of 91 or higher octane “Premium” gasoline is recommended in these engines". ---- So no warranty issues.

So it sounds like a good quality 87 octane is fine.
I didn't even know and I am sure the use of 91+ is recommended in ALL vehicles for optimal performance. so I've been using 87-(89 when available) and had no issues runs great actually if i step on the gas a little to much from stop it burns rubber and average 21.8 at this time. will try 91 and see if there is a difference. if not I will continue with 87. Hey! with premium gas prices at $4 - 4.50 a gallon in San Diego CA can't blame me!!

There's no 91 around me, usually 87, 89 and 93. However, I use ethanol free 90- becoming more readily available.
