Just bought a new 2018 JLU Sahara and have been loving it. has about 1300 miles on it now and today it started acting weird. i was noticing some very low whistling sounds which is due to the turbo I am sure, but when I punch it to accelerate a very loud screaming/revving sound has started that was not there before. seems to only happen once the turbo kicks in. I have made an appointment with the dealership to find out whats going on but just wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this. cant really find anything online that describes what I am hearing.

Wow. Screaming/revving sound. A turbo is nothing more than an air compressor, sucking in a tremendous amount of air that can make a tremendous amount of noise. I'd be willing to bet there is absolutely nothing wrong with your car. Its a turbo acting like a turbo when you spool it up under load. If you haven't thrown any codes (check engine), the chances of it being an issue are remarkably low.

isn't that a supercharger? A turbo is driven by the engines exhaust gas

No. Both a supercharger and a turbo compress the incoming air. A supercharger is a compressor that is engine driven with a pulley or belt. A turbo is exhaust driven.

Wonder if you blew a air pipe.

Does it sound like air? Also is there a drop in power?

I have taken it into the dealership and let them hear it. It is almost like the turbo isnā€™t working. They agreed that there is an issue and I have an appointment on Thursday. Will update once I find out whatā€™s going on

Yes it does sound like air and the power has went way down. I clocked 0-60 at 12 seconds!

You can chase the pipes coming from the turbo and see if any have become disconnected if you want.

Fairly simple if you can see them. Whenever they connect to a component they are held by a metal clamp.

If one is, loosen the clamp attach it back and tighten it back up.

Still in the shop and they donā€™t know why it is making that noise. They said they are waiting on Chrysler to tell them what to do. They told them to compare the sound to a few other jeeps. Really frustrating having bought a $46k Jeep and have it in the shop two weeks later with an issue they donā€™t know how to fix.

Based on your description (a lot of sound and no power), I would speculate that you have a boost leak. After the turbo compresses the air, it has to travel through a large hose to the intercooler which is at the front of the Jeep, pass through the intercooler, and then back through a large hose to the engine. I would guess that one of these hoses has become compromised or perhaps the intercooler itself has a problem. However, it is a little peculiar that you don't have a check engine light.

A second guess is that the wastegate is stuck in the open position. In normal operation, the Jeep ECU will gradually open the wastegate as it approaches maximum boost. This prevents the turbo form creating too much boost pressure. A compromised wastegate will also produce a peculiar sound and you will have no power as the engine cannot build boost.

Dealership said that the valve clamp on the hose going into the back of the turbo was off, they got it taken care of and I am back on the road

Yes, but the difference is that a supercharger is spooled up and ready to deliver power instantly.
