On June 7th as I pulled into my driveway, my check engine light came on and my engine started surging. I scanned my Jeep and found 8 different codes for what I thought was the alternator and/or the 48 volt battery system. I called the dealer and dropped it off the next day. It was a Saturday and they were a little busy and said to check back Monday and see if they got to looking at it yet. So I called that Tuesday and was told the battery was replaced and they were just waiting on approval for something else, should be good to go tomorrow. I called the next day, was told it should be ready afternoon tomorrow the latest. Called back and they said my alternator/generator went bad and was on backorder till July 23rd. After hearing that I promptly asked for a loaner since they hadn't allowed me to have one yet, they said check back tomorrow since they had none back yet but should tomorrow. Well now it's Friday, 7 days after dropping it off at the dealer, they finally gave me a loaner after going to another dealer to pick one up. They also said they were contacting corporate to see if the part could be expedited but heard nothing back yet, "We'll call you Monday." I called them around 4:30pm on Monday after not hearing anything. The service advisor said her boss was off for the day and they still hadn't gotten an update yet. So I called Jeep customer support the next day. They said they would get a case specialist on it and I would be receiving a call from him within a day or two. So I've been out of my Jeep for 12 days while it sits on the dealer lot and have yet to hear any updates. I'm really hoping I don't have to wait until July 23rd for it to come off back order and then wait who knows how long for it to arrive and be installed :(
UPDATE: I got a case manager for my issue, he let me know they pushed up the ship date for the alternator to June 26th

I posted this in another thread but they suggested posting it here as well, since this is actually the correct place for it. That being said, another one of your reps already reached out to me. Thank you for checking in though!

Update:
Just received a call from my case manager and they've told me there is no definite ship date for the backordered part. They are paying for a month of my Jeep payment though...

Sadly, no. Went to the dealer the other day to ask for a copy of my repair order, which they quickly said they couldn't legally give me one until my Jeep is fixed. They said last they knew they were looking at end of July for it to be off backorder. My case manager still thinks July 10th ish. He did tell me that originally but he also said he couldn't confirm it would ship then. So I'm still stuck in limbo :(

Update:
Got a call from the case manager today. Supposedly my alternator is shipping the week of the 15th, so next week. That's all he had to say

If my BSG failed, I'd ask them to make it ESS, like the 2020s. Take all the 100lbs of "stuff" off, add alternator, baby battery, flash computer. Wishful thinking...
Lol. If only they would agree to something like that. Certainly doesn't make me want to keep this damn thing much longer, once I get it back...

Update: Case manager gave me another update on the ship date. Says should be shipping by the 19th. Didn't say what month, but hopefully it's this month.
Edit: the 19th date was told to me from a voicemail. I called back to ask a few more questions(possible buyback, etc) and he said the date is now pushed back even further, now the 22nd possibly. Also said he would move my case to the buyback department or something and that they decide whether it's possible or not and if yes they'll call me or if they want me to continue in misery, that he would maintain the case and keep getting updates on my part.

You have Commendable Patience ! I doubt I could allow this to keep me Jeepless...

Curious.....what the cost would be out of warranty? As we may have this issue one day later as well. the BSGs are here to stay it seems, as all sahara are getting them in 2020 i think.

Well, I do in fact have another jeep. It's a 92 YJ(maybe I'll get some hate for the square headlights but it's grown on me over the years) and as much as that's a joy to drive it is old and it has its quirks. Also it's been waaaayyy too hot out to drive that and not start sweating profusely so I tend to take it out earlier in the day or to work here and there as it's a very short drive to and from. That being said, I am truly fed up with waiting this long.

I don't even want to think about it. I know there's no aftermarket alternative yet.... already looked into that to try and fix this issue myself

Since the BSG is being discontinued for the 2.0 T, Sahara only keeping it , maybe there will be a "Simplify " mod to remove all that (100+ lbs weight savings) and make it like the 2020 ESS, and the European ESS... Yes, BSG is covered for 8 years, 80,000 miles, but simpler is better...
