It is wise to change your oil for the first time within the first 2 to 3 thousand miles.
Why do you care? If it makes them feel good, why not.
Peeing your pants gives you a warm feeling, too, and it doesn't cost anything. :cwl:

Y'all can spend your money on unnecessary oil changes if you wish, but that doesn't make you a wise person.

Thanks for this. The dealer did not reset after my oil change today.

@ all Pennzoil users..

Don't forget to go here and get your $10 rebate (yes, $10) on your $27.00+- 5 qt. container of Pennzoil. Pennzoil is quick to send the check... http://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/promo...6b2lsLzIwMTZuZXdzbGV0dGVyLz9sb2NhbGU9ZW5fdXM=
Yup, you pay about $17 or less in the end for that 5 qts. of Pennzoil.
I bought them on amazon. Made for the JL. If buying, make sure you pay attention to cloth or leather. For some reason it makes a difference here.

Just got another rebate check from Pennzoil. Pennzoil get the check right out...

After $10 rebate, it ended up I paid $14.23 for the 5 qt. bottle of Penzoil Platinum..... Add the $6.39 I paid for the OEM oil filter at amazon.com and my 1st oil change cost me $20.62.

No, I do not let dealership service departments do my oil changes, free or not.

Well, I got bored today and decided to do the first oil change at 1700 miles on my JLUR.

Went with Penzoil Platinum 0W20.

After I did the change I started to wonder if I did it too early and maybe the rings aren't set, etc. I'm sure it will be fine, but is there any cause for concern? Thanks!
Not sure I can run 0W20 when its 90 and higher, got to go full sun 10-30

I wouldn't worry. The stats on these 0w20 oils are excellent. They'll do fine. The flash point on Mobil 1 ow20 EP or AP is higher than most 10w30 oils, even synthetic. These engines will live long on quality 0w20 oils. If you are worried, then just change them at 5 or 6 thousand miles. I'd do that before I'd go to a 10w30. My last two oil analyses showed the factory fill and Mobil 1 EP 0w20 to be in good shape after 2k and about 3k miles, respectively.

Mt service manager said I could easily go to 5w-20 and we get plenty of heat here in NC. I'd be a little leery of 10w-30 unless I had some serious miles on the Jeep and it was plenty hot out and it was full synthetic. Pennzoil is what goes in them from the factory and that's what I have been sticking with.

I think your dealer is right. When hot, it is still in the 20 weight range, which is within spec. You can't go wrong with that plan. Just remember, though, that 0w20 is also within the same range when hot. It is only a zero weight when cold.
