Headline: Florida man seeks approval from Jeep community to run insanely large tires, thinks the smiles are people who think it's cool but they're really just laughing at him.

:D I kid.

Yeah, I’m just messing around about both. The 38’s are going on Monday.

I’m a little worried that the sidewall profile of the 38x15.5 geolandars won’t look as grotesquely wide as I like. The 38x15.5 Baja Boss’ on the Godspeed ZRZ YouTube channel have a nice square cornered construction.

The Geolandars were looking to run too narrow and Discount Tire couldn’t find a set of the 38x15.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss’ that run super wide so I switched the plan to MT Baja Legend MTZ in 36x15.5 on 20x12 wheels (pictured on a Jeep from customoffsets.com). My set should be on Thursday.

Not sure that the fact they were 15.5" wide makes that much of a difference when you are talking about a 38" heavy mud tire on an 18x12 rim! Don't get me wrong as I'm not criticizing the OP, but have to chuckle just a little when somebody buys an $80k+ 392 XR and then spends at least $4k in completely non-practical tires and wheels but is worried about gas mileage. To be clear, I would love to be in a position to do this and don't blame the person for wanting to do this at all....but asking about gas mileage brings a smile to my face.....
The massive width makes all the difference. The same tire in a 40x13.50r17 is 30lbs lighter. You could save 40+ lbs per tire by running a lighter tire like a KO2, KM3, or milestar in a 39-40" on top of saving another 20lbs per wheel. Our 38" Patagonias weighed 107lbs mounted. This tire alone weighs 121lbs and the wheels are another 43lbs. An extra 60lbs rotatating, unsprung weight is massive. I've seen mounted 40's that weigh less than that tire alone.

The 36x15.5 Baja Legend tire and cheap 20x12 wheel I chose weigh 128 lbs per corner. Could be less but I didn’t want faux big tires that only look good in profile.

Everybody has their own take on aesthetics but skinny, large diameter tires isn’t a look I would ever pay to have. Every car I’ve ever had looked much better with super wide tires installed (325 MPSS’s on Q50’s, 335/345s on Widebody challengers, 325’s on mustangs, etc.).

The BMW X6M I traded in on the Jeep had the 13.5” wide 325 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s made for the Porsche GT3 in the rear and like all the others, looked amazing with wide tires.

36x15.5 tires on 20x12 wheels going on to replace the 392’s factory 315/70/17s. I like my Jeep about 10X more than I did pre-wheel/ tire swap.

It rides great, didn’t alter the gearing too much, looks way better and MPGs bounced back up to an indicated 12.6 last night (exactly where it was when I got to Discount Tire on the stock set up).

I was curious how the Mickey Thompson 36’s under weight compared to the stock 35’s (315/70/17). The 36’s were listed as 36.4” online but only looked to be 35.5” under weight using a yardstick and ruler.

But even under weight, the MT 36’s were a full inch taller than the stock “35s” not under weight.

It’s interesting the difference between labeled tire sizes and real world measurements under weight.

MT Baja Boss AT 35x15.5 listed as 34.5” (not under weight?)
MT Baja Legend MT 36x15.5 = 35.5” aired up under weight
MT Baja Boss MT 38x15.5 = 36” aired down a bit, under weight (according to an estimate by YouTuber GodSpeedZRZ, which seems right since mine barely clear at full lock where his barely contact at full lock -at the same spot in the back side on the wheel well).

I love this thread because it's all about experimentation and trying something new. (Despite my tastes being only for pizza cutters <10.5"). Keep us updated as you try different offsets. I'll be curious how well you can fit them under the fenders. As a last resort, there is an Icelandic company, formverk.is, that makes very high quality wider JL flares that they use in Iceland where they run the 40x16 tires and such: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...ty-yellow-wrangler-jl-club.89483/post-2158365

Thank you. I just sent a message about getting some of those super wide fenders. 👍🏻
