Last January, I started on a new adventure after someone decided to run a stop sign and crash into my Kia Soul. I was so in shock that I convinced myself that any car would be acceptable just to get myself back on the road. I went to CarMax and bought myself a Jeep Compass. Then I realized I had made a huge mistake. After researching a little bit more, I decided to return the Compass and buy a 2019 Cherokee KL instead.
I got in deep with the KL Facebook groups. I never knew there could be so many mods, and I didn’t know off reading was such a big thing. Next thing you know, I bought a lift, installed new wheels and tires, and decided to take the KL off road. That’s when I started to realize the striking limitations the KL had compared to the Wrangler off road.
I joined a local Facebook group called MOJO (Mid Ohio Jeepers Organization) and went on a club ride through the woods of Southern Ohio. Every single creek, thump, thud… scared the crap out of me. I thought I had so much body damage after that trail ride. Luckily, only my front bumper was damaged. Then I had the opportunity to go on another trail ride, this time as a passenger in a Wrangler. And it was that moment I decided I needed one.
A month later, after weeks of shopping around and looking at various Wranglers at different dealerships, I settled on a brand new 2020 JLU Willy’s with only 5 miles on the odometer. The rest… is history.
April 2020, the day I brought Sirius Black home:
May 2020, the first trail ride:
June 2020, the first modifixations:
July 2020, the upgrade to 35” tires:
August 2020, new fenders and a 2.5” lift is installed:
September 2020, a trip to Rausch Creek to test the capabilities:
October 2020, first time out flying on the dunes of Silver Lake:
November 2020, learning to cope with breaking stuff on the trails:
December 2020, becoming one with nature:
January 2021, the upgrade to 37” tires and new wheels:
I am planning another trip to Rausch Creek in April of this year. Next up: a full underbody skid system and a re-gear. I am excited to see what comes next for Sirius Black!
